No matter what Luo Ya said, Hao Chunying insisted that she had not agreed.
Luo Ya tried to reason with her, but eventually got angry: "If you don't want to, then fine! Do you really think your son is some kind of treasure?"
"He's just a man with a child from a second marriage; who would want him?" With that, she turned and left.
Hao Chunying stood there and shouted, "Luo Ya, wait! How can you speak like that? My son has a job and is good-looking. Even if he has a child from a second marriage, he’s not good enough for your niece!"
But Luo Ya was already far away. Furious, Hao Chunying kicked the wall several times before heading into the factory.
Meanwhile, while Luo Ya was confronting Hao Chunying, Luo Mei went to find Ye Zijun. Following her aunt's example, she blocked Ye Zijun at the factory gate.
"Zijun Ge, I need to talk to you," Luo Mei said as she looked at him.
Ye Zijun was surprised that Luo Mei came to find him. After all, Hao Chunying had already spoken to her aunt about their situation; it should have been over. Why was she still coming to see him?
However, he had no interest in being the center of attention at the factory gate, so he waved for Luo Mei to follow him aside.
"What brings you here? Do you need something?" Ye Zijun asked.
"Zijun Ge, do you not want to be with me anymore?" Luo Mei looked at him with tears in her eyes.
Ye Zijun was unmoved by her tears. They had only been on a few dates after their initial introduction. To say they had feelings for each other would be nonsense; they were just slightly more familiar than strangers.
Now, with Luo Mei acting this way, outsiders might think he was bullying her.
"Comrade Luo, you should just call me Comrade Ye," he said sternly. "The brother-sister dynamic isn't good."
Luo Mei felt her face flush at his words; she hadn’t expected Ye Zijun to be so dismissive of her. But since she needed something from him, she could only endure it.
"Brother Ye, I'm here to clear up a misunderstanding. When I said I didn't want to take care of your son, I didn’t express myself clearly. What I meant was that I'm still young and can't just stay at home all the time. The child can stay with Aunt Guo; we’ll definitely cover the expenses," Luo Mei explained.
Ye Zhi-jun did not believe a word of Luo Mei's words, but he had already decided not to continue their relationship, so there was no need to refute her. He simply said, "We are not suitable for each other, so let's end this. I have made up my mind; even if I remarry, I won't have children for ten years. You are a good girl, and you will definitely find someone better than me."
Luo Mei was taken aback by Ye Zhi-jun's thoughts. What was going on? She had married him with the intention of having children as soon as possible; having no biological children was simply unacceptable to her. She envisioned that after getting married and having a child, she would leave the child in the care of Hao Chunying while she took over Hao Chunying's job.
"Brother Ye, even if we have a child, I will definitely take good care of your son. I'm not a malicious person; you have to believe me," Luo Mei said earnestly.
"I have already decided; I absolutely won't have children within ten years. If you don't agree, I'd rather not get married at all." Ye Zhi-jun replied firmly.
"Actually, it's fine if we don't have more children; I already have a son and don't plan on having too many," he added without wavering.
"But Brother Ye, does Aunt Hao know about this? She won't let you do whatever you want," Luo Mei said, genuinely shocked. She couldn't understand how Ye Zhi-jun could have such an idea of not wanting children for ten years. Most people believed that having more children brought more blessings; why had he changed his mind?
