Ye Fangfei sighed briefly before heading home. The rural education program was a national policy, and even though she sympathized with Gao Xiangchun, there was little she could do to help. It was better for her to return home and prepare meals for her husband. 0

Little did Ye Fangfei know that the solution the Gao family ultimately came up with was closely related to her. As she returned home, she let her daughter play inside while she planned to steam some buns, mantou, and flower rolls. It was the twenty-sixth day of the twelfth lunar month, and she first kneaded the dough before chopping up the filling for the buns. With limited ingredients available, she decided to make two types of fillings: cabbage and pork, and sauerkraut with pork cracklings. She intended to steam a larger batch since the weather was cold; when it was too chilly to cook outside, they could simply steam a few buns. 0

During lunch, Ye Fangfei didn’t prepare a full meal; instead, she ate two buns herself and continued wrapping more. While she managed fine with just a couple of buns, her daughter Xiao Yueyue needed more sustenance. Ye Fangfei steamed a bowl of egg cake for her daughter and held her on her lap while feeding her. 0

“Xiao Yueyue, is the egg cake delicious?” Ye Fangfei asked as she offered a piece to her daughter. 0

“Delicious!” Xiao Yueyue replied in her sweet voice. 0

Ye Fangfei couldn’t help but find her daughter adorable and leaned down to kiss her. “My little darling, how are you so cute?” 0

Xiao Yueyue giggled at the affection. Ye Fangfei felt a wave of warmth; after all, this child was hers—so lovable in every way. 0

Once Xiao Yueyue was fed and lulled to sleep, Ye Fangfei returned to steaming the buns. Later that evening, Tang Zhicheng came home carrying several items. 0

“Wife, I didn’t come back empty-handed! Look at these two pieces of fabric; they have some loose threads but were inexpensive. I paid for them myself,” he said, showing off his finds. 0

“Oh, these two pieces of floral cotton fabric were free,” he added. 0

He continued to list his haul: “And these enamel basins, an enamel tea cup, and an enamel bowl. I also got two pairs of scissors and a spatula—all slightly defective but very cheap.” 0

He concluded with a smile, “Plus, I brought back two pounds of rice, five pounds of white flour, half a pound of dried shrimp skins, and half a pound of dried shrimp—these were given by the textile factory.” 0

This is a pound of rapeseed oil, two taels of tea leaves, and half a pound each of sunflower seeds and peanuts from the enamel factory. There's also a pound of fish. 0

The hardware factory gave us a bit more than the previous two. They provided a pound of brown sugar, two pounds of vermicelli, two pounds of rice, two pounds of white flour, and ten oranges. 0

With all these items, along with what we have from our own contributions, we basically won’t need to buy anything for the New Year. Tang Zhicheng showed each item to Ye Fangfei. 0

"Oh my, that's quite a lot! Now we have plenty for the New Year," she exclaimed happily. 0

By the way, we also have enough fabric at home. Why don’t you take a look at these two pieces and see if you can sell them for some money? Ye Fangfei said, looking at all the items with joy. 0

It’s just right for the New Year; everyone wants to make new clothes, and they will cost a bit more. As for these matters, Ye Fangfei made the decisions while Tang Zhicheng simply followed his daughter-in-law's instructions. 0

“Take the rice and flour to the kitchen; I’ll tidy up later. Put the fish outside to freeze. The sunflower seeds and sugar cubes can go into the house on the cabinet. The rest can be stored in the barn,” she directed. 0

“Oh, and give me an orange; I’ll peel one for our daughter.” Ye Fangfei said as she took an orange to give to her child. 0

Tang Zhicheng obediently categorized and placed everything as his daughter-in-law instructed. 0

“Sweetheart, is the orange sour?” Ye Fangfei asked as she popped a piece of orange flesh into her daughter’s little mouth. 0

Seeing her daughter’s brows furrowed in response made her smile. 0

“It’s sour,” Little Moon said after swallowing the orange piece. 0

“If it’s sour, then we won’t eat it.” Ye Fangfei said as she was about to pop the remaining orange into her own mouth. 0

“Eat it! I want to eat it, Mommy! I want to eat!” Little Moon exclaimed anxiously, grabbing Ye Fangfei's hand and jumping up and down. 0
