The New Year of the 1970s arrived as expected, and after today, it would be 1971.
"Darling, shall we have a drink?" Tang Zhi took out a bottle of red wine.
This bottle of red wine was found in the house over there and had never been opened. Tang Zhi brought it back just in time for today.
"Alright, pour me some." Ye Fangfei couldn't drink white wine, but she could manage red wine.
Tang Zhi poured a glass for her and filled one for himself. He raised his glass to clink with hers. "Darling, thank you. Ever since I left home and got married, these past two years have felt like living in a honey jar."
Tang Zhi spoke sincerely; indeed, he had never lived better than since marrying Ye Fangfei.
"Why bring this up? Let’s drink to that and thank you for your understanding and care." Ye Fangfei raised her glass as well.
Little Moon had long been lulled to sleep, and the couple felt as if they had returned to their newlywed days. After finishing their meal, they enjoyed another passionate night together.
The next day was New Year's Day. Last year on this day, they spent the entire day cleaning their new home. This year, they planned to stay home and relax.
The couple had no other plans but to play with their daughter.
As usual, they ate dumplings for lunch, but this time they were filled with chives and eggs. The chives were grown by Ye Fangfei in a pot inside the house; they had already harvested one batch, and today was the second.
"Darling, next year let’s plant more chives indoors. It’s really nice to have fresh chives in winter," Tang Zhi said after taking a bite of dumpling.
"Yes, not only chives; we can also plant some bok choy, spinach, and green onions," Ye Fangfei replied.
"When you have time, order a few wooden boxes and fill them with soil. Set up a rack in the kitchen to stack the boxes layer by layer during winter."
"The kitchen is warm; the vegetables should grow well there. That way, we won’t lack greens in winter," Ye Fangfei continued.
"That sounds great! I’m tired of eating nothing but cabbage and potatoes or pickled radishes every day. Having some leafy greens would be wonderful," Tang Zhi agreed without hesitation.
"We can make several wooden boxes; no one is living in the west room anyway, and it's close to the kitchen where it’s also warm. We could even plant some chrysanthemum greens and lettuce."
"This way, we won’t run out of vegetables."
"Honestly, it’s not good for people to go long periods without eating leafy greens. Especially for Little Moon; she needs balanced nutrition." Ye Fangfei thought about placing a few wooden boxes in the west room as well so they could grow a variety of plants.
After finishing lunch, the couple took a short nap. They had stayed up too late the night before, so a midday rest was just right.
When they woke up, Ye Fangfei was still coaxing their daughter to play on the kang. Tang Zhi, however, wanted to check on their new house.
Although they didn’t live there yet, it was important to visit from time to time. They couldn’t let others think that the house was unoccupied.
“Why don’t you skip it today? It just started snowing again outside,” Ye Fangfei suggested. “It’s not a big deal if you don’t go.”
“It’s fine; I’ll go take a look anyway. I want to light the stove and warm it up a bit,” Tang Zhi replied as he lifted the door curtain to check the weather outside.
Ye Fangfei understood this reasoning as well. It wasn’t just today; they made it a habit to visit every few days. At the very least, they needed to let people know that the house wasn’t empty.
“Alright then, put on your military coat and wear that leather hat,” she said.
