Both children were well aware of their combined power, which was definitely greater than the sum of its parts. Especially for Ye Fangfei, who had no elders to help her, it was exhausting.
It was fine when Tang Zhicheng wasn’t out driving; he could always lend a hand, making things easier for Ye Fangfei. However, Tang Zhicheng often spent most of his time out on the road. So, it was usually Ye Fangfei who took care of the two children.
After lying down for a while to rest, she got up and washed the clothes the children had worn that day. Finally, she added coal to both stoves before heading to bed.
Early the next morning, Ye Fangfei woke up. Little Moon needed to go to school, and Ye Fangfei had to prepare breakfast for her. The day before, Little Moon had mentioned wanting wontons. Ye Fangfei had chopped the meat filling last night and prepared the dough as well, so all she needed to do in the morning was wrap them.
Since there were no wonton wrappers available for sale, Ye Fangfei had to roll them out herself. However, she had a trick up her sleeve. She tore off pieces of dough slightly larger than dumpling-sized and rolled them into round wrappers with a rolling pin. Then she made one horizontal cut and one vertical cut in the center of each wrapper, creating four triangular wonton skins.
Ye Fangfei was quite skilled at this; within half an hour, she had wrapped all the wontons. As the stove heated water, she went into the room to wake her daughter.
“Little Moon, wake up! Hurry up! Mom has made you wontons; didn’t you say you wanted some? Get up and eat!” Ye Fangfei gently patted her daughter’s cheek.
“Mom…” Little Moon rubbed her eyes and slowly woke up.
“Come on, put on your cotton coat; Mom has made you wontons. Hurry up and eat!” Ye Fangfei helped her put on the coat.
“Put on your cotton pants and socks by yourself. Then get out of bed to wash your face and brush your teeth. Mom will go check if Little Sun is awake.” After arranging everything for her daughter, Ye Fangfei went to wake her son.
After dressing her youngest son, Ye Fangfei asked her daughter, Little Moon, to keep an eye on him while she returned to the kitchen to cook wontons.
The morning felt like a battle; by the time Ye Fangfei got both children ready, her own breakfast had gone cold. Time was slipping away, so she hurried through her meal.
“Little Moon, go pack your backpack and check if your homework is in there. Don’t forget to put your water bottle in!” she reminded as she ate.
Once she finished her meal, she didn’t even have time to wipe the dishes before taking the two children out. First, she dropped her youngest off at Aunt Zhao's house, where he would be looked after. Then, in a rush, she hopped on her bicycle to take Little Moon to school. Finally, she hurried off to work herself.
Arriving at the office building just in time, she found Sister Wang already there. Seeing Ye Fangfei panting for breath made Wang realize just how hectic her morning had been.
“Has Tang Zhicheng not come back yet? You look so busy!” Wang remarked.
It was no wonder Wang said that; if Tang Zhicheng were home, Ye Fangfei wouldn’t be in such a state. When he was around, Ye Fangfei didn’t have to worry about the children at all.
Tang Zhicheng would wake up early to make breakfast, get the kids up, and take them to school. He even handled laundry and dishes—he took care of everything at home.
To be honest, even Wang envied such a man.
