"Dear, I'm taking a day off tomorrow, but I have to hit the road the day after," Tang Zhi said as he lay in bed, holding Ye Fangfei close.
"Where are you going this time? Why the rush? Can't you rest for a couple more days?" Ye Fangfei asked.
"My uncle said Inner Mongolia. We're hauling a batch of blankets, thread, and felt," he explained.
"Actually, we only need two trucks this time. I don't have to do it all myself; my uncle is letting me choose," he continued. "The stuff we're transporting this time is all good quality, and it should sell well. Plus, Inner Mongolia has plenty of beef and lamb. I want to see if I can bring some back."
"I told my uncle that even though it's a bit tough, if I can bring back some good stuff, it could be quite profitable," Tang Zhi added.
"Just take care of yourself. Making money is important, but your health is even more important," Ye Fangfei replied. While she appreciated the importance of money, she still worried about Tang Zhi neglecting his health.
Tang Zhi felt comforted by her concern; he knew that his wife was the one who cared for him the most in this world.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. There are plenty of good things in Inner Mongolia; even bringing back a little will be profitable. Otherwise, I wouldn't go," he reassured her. "The beef and lamb there are great. Even if we can't sell it all, we can enjoy it ourselves."
Thinking about the beef and lamb made Ye Fangfei's mouth water; since arriving in this place, she hadn't had any beef or lamb yet.
"As long as you know what you're doing, just get what you can. Don't push yourself too hard if it's not possible; safety comes first," she advised.
"Yeah, don't worry. By the way, how much cash do we have at home? I want to bring more this time. If possible, I'll bring back some extra meat," Tang Zhi said as he calculated how much money he had on hand.
"Speaking of which, I need to talk to you about something. Why did you buy so many things for Xiao Yueying?"
"I know you care about her, but you can't just give her everything she wants. Take her pencil case for example; she just got a new one two months ago—why does she need another?"
"And that dress and those little shoes—kids grow fast! What you buy today might not fit tomorrow. Isn't that just wasting money?"
"Also, you can't be too biased; look at all the things you've brought back—none of them were for Xiao Taiyang."
"You can't favor girls over boys either," Ye Fangfei scolded him with a long list of concerns.
After being lectured by his wife, Tang Zhi reflected on himself and realized that he might indeed have been a bit biased towards girls over boys.
It was as if this time in Haicheng, he was only thinking about buying this and that for his daughter, and it seemed he hardly thought of his son at all. I realized I need to pay more attention next time. However, the reason I bought skirts and little shoes for my daughter was also because we were going back to my hometown.
You know how my parents are; they hold onto traditional views, and they might not care as much about Little Moon as they do about Little Sun. I worry that Little Moon might feel neglected, so I wanted to make it up to her a bit more. Plus, when we go back home, I want my daughter to look beautiful, to show them that she is living better than their son.
I want them to think twice before looking down on Little Moon. Tang Zhi has indeed thought of everything a father should consider for his daughter. When he thought about the in-laws back home, Ye Fangfei fell silent. So much time had passed, and Little Moon was already seven years old.
Even if she had grievances, they had mostly faded away by now. It wasn't that she had stopped caring; rather, Tang Zhi had always stood by her side, knowing she didn't want to return to her hometown. He never uttered a single complaint while accompanying her here. He was also particularly kind to her in-laws, Ye Jianguo and Hao Chunying.
