One day, Ye Fangfei surprisingly did not wake up early. At Tang Zhicheng's home, he took care of everything in the morning—cooking and looking after the children. By the time both kids were seated at the dining table, Ye Fangfei finally got up to wash up.
“Wife, no need to rush. We have plenty of time. I’ll serve you some porridge to cool down,” Tang Zhicheng said, noticing Ye Fangfei hurriedly preparing herself.
At Tang Zhicheng's home, Ye Fangfei truly felt at ease. Breakfast was prepared, the children were taken care of, and all she needed to do was get ready and sit down to eat.
Tang Zhicheng had gotten up early to steam buns and cook a porridge made from a mix of rice and millet. He also fried eggs with pickled vegetables and prepared salted duck eggs. It was quite a feast.
“Wife, I’ll buy some meat later for lunch. We can stew it,” he said while feeding their son. “Is there anything else you want to eat?”
“I’m fine with anything; just make whatever you like,” Ye Fangfei replied, not picky about food.
“Dad, I want to eat fish-flavored shredded pork! Can you make it for me?” Little Moon quickly swallowed her porridge and chimed in.
Tang Zhicheng was always eager to fulfill his daughter’s requests. “Alright, Daddy will make it for you. You can have it right after school.”
“Is there anything else you want?” he asked again.
“We also need to steam an egg custard for my little brother. He likes it with some soy sauce on top,” Little Moon thoughtfully added, considering both her own preferences and her brother's.
“Okay, Daddy understands. Our Little Moon is such a good sister,” Tang Zhicheng praised her before turning to their son, who was focused on his bun. “Look how good your sister is to you; you should treat her well too.”
Little Moon smiled at her father’s praise, while Tang Zhicheng felt satisfied having complimented his daughter and taught his son a lesson at the same time.
The little boy continued munching on his bun, oblivious but content.
Ye Fangfei found it amusing; Tang Zhicheng’s favoritism was evident in his actions.
Not bothering with them any longer, Ye Fangfei finished her breakfast and rode her bicycle to work.
After seeing both children finish their meals, Tang Zhicheng took Little Moon to school before returning home to keep an eye on their son while tidying up the house.
Both parents worked full-time while raising two children. With limited time for household chores during the week, Tang Zhicheng made sure to clean whenever he could.
After tidying up the house, Tang Zhicheng took his son to Aunt Zhao's place. He had to go out to handle some business, and it was inconvenient to bring the child along.
"Oh, Zhicheng is back?" Aunt Zhao smiled as she saw Tang Zhicheng dropping off the child.
"Yes, I'm back. I'll leave him here for now while I take care of some matters. I'll come back to pick him up later." Tang Zhicheng placed Little Sun on the kang.
"Alright, you go ahead." Aunt Zhao came over to help Little Sun take off his shoes.
Once he entrusted his son to Aunt Zhao, Tang Zhicheng felt relieved and got busy with his own affairs. After all, he needed to head out again tomorrow and would need cash on hand; those things had to be dealt with during the day.
He was familiar with the people over there, and every time he returned with goods, he would sell them to Old Song.
Old Song was a half-boss in Beijing, running quite a few businesses under his name. Drivers like Tang Zhicheng, who drove big trucks, often came to him to sell their goods. So Old Song wasn't surprised to see Tang Zhicheng.
"Old Tang, what good stuff have you brought this time?" Old Song knew that Tang Zhicheng often managed to get his hands on things others couldn't.
"This time I really have something good. Take a look at this." As he spoke, Tang Zhicheng pulled out a watch from his bag and handed it over.
"Oh wow, where did you get this?" Old Song took it and examined it closely. "Old Tang, this isn't a new watch, is it?"
