"Dear, how about we keep a sheep at home today? We can eat half of it ourselves," suggested Tang Zhicheng as he discussed with Ye Fangfei.
"Alright, let's also save some beef. We'll keep ten jin for ourselves and give two jin to Mom and Auntie," Ye Fangfei replied.
"Okay, I've already set it aside in the storage. This afternoon, I'll find Old Song and get everything delivered to him." After washing his hands, Tang Zhicheng joined her in making dumplings.
Ye Fangfei quickly stopped him, "No need for you to help. You should lie down on the kang and rest for a bit. I'll call you when it's time to eat."
Then she instructed their daughter, "Little Moon, go get an apple for your dad."
"Okay!" Little Moon responded eagerly and ran off to fetch an apple for her father.
"Alright, I'll take a break then." Tang Zhicheng indeed felt a bit tired. He took the apple from his daughter's hands and went into the house.
Little Sun wanted to follow but was pulled back by Ye Fangfei. "Son, come help Mommy roll out the dumpling skins, okay?"
After coaxing her son back, she had their daughter roll out the skins while the three of them worked together to make dumplings.
Once they finished making the dumplings, Ye Fangfei noticed there might not be enough food, so she decided to make some fried meatballs as well. She also prepared two small dishes for Tang Zhicheng before calling him to eat.
"Dear, it's time for dinner!" Ye Fangfei set the dishes on the table and then helped their son wash his hands, which were covered in oil from eating meatballs.
Tang Zhicheng sat down and immediately grabbed a dumpling to eat. "Delicious! It's always better when my wife cooks."
"If you think it's good, then eat more. You've been eating poorly for several days," Ye Fangfei said as she served him several more dumplings.
"I've been wanting to eat your dumplings for ages; I have to have a few more." Tang Zhicheng was too focused on eating to think about anything else.
After being away for over ten days, every meal had been unsatisfactory. Now that he was finally home and enjoying delicious food, he couldn't help but indulge.
"These fried meatballs are tasty too! Did you put shredded radish in them?" After finishing a few dumplings, he reached for the meatballs.
"Yes, I added shredded radish and vermicelli," Ye Fangfei replied.
"Delicious!" Tang Zhicheng continued to pile his plate high with food.
Seeing him eat so eagerly, Ye Fangfei hurriedly served him a bowl of dumpling soup. "Drink some soup and take your time eating."
After taking care of the man, Ye Fangfei turned her attention to her pair of children. The siblings were particularly focused on the meatballs. Especially the little sunbeam, who had just washed his hands but now had sauce all over his face.
Ye Fangfei didn't mind and let him make a mess. After all, she would have to wash him up later anyway.
Once they finished their meal, Tang Zhicheng planned to grab some things from their house to find Old Song. Ye Fangfei suddenly had an idea and suggested staying there for a couple of days. "Why don't we stay over there for a couple of days? It’ll save you from worrying about those things," she said.
Tang Zhicheng thought it over and agreed. Since he had just returned, he really didn’t want to be apart from his wife and children. Besides, it wasn’t their first time staying there, and it was well-equipped.
"Alright then, let’s pack our things and stay there for the night," Tang Zhicheng replied.
"Great! I’ll start packing right now," Ye Fangfei said as she got up.
"What do you need to prepare? They have everything over there; just take a couple of outfits for the kids," he added.
"Good thing I thought about lighting the stove tonight, so I won’t have to worry about the kids getting cold," Tang Zhicheng remarked.
"That’s true. Then you can put the kids in their thick cotton jackets while I grab a couple of clothes and we’ll head out," Ye Fangfei said.
