Ye Fangfei noticed that Tang Zhi seemed satisfied, so she started talking about other things.
"Are you able to take a couple of days off this time? I’ll buy two packs of Da Qianmen cigarettes and four bottles of Xifeng liquor from home. I also got two pounds of shrimp chips and five boxes of Four Seasons Snack gift sets. I still have some nylon stockings at home; I’ll take a few pairs for my parents. Is there anything else you want me to buy?" Ye Fangfei asked.
Tang Zhi thought for a moment and replied, "Wife, you've already bought quite a lot. We still need to get some beef, lamb, and offal. How about this: we don’t need to buy more now. My uncle has already told me that I should drive tomorrow. I estimate there will be more things to bring back."
He continued, "In the next few days, if nothing unexpected happens, I might also help out at other factories, so there will be more stuff then. We can see what else we can bring back then; if there's extra, we can send some to my hometown."
"That works. Why don’t you take another day off? You’ve been out for such a long time; you must be tired. It’s better to rest for a couple more days," Ye Fangfei said with concern. "You can’t just ignore your health just because you’re young."
"It’s fine; it’s just these few days before the New Year. I can manage," Tang Zhi assured her. "These days are the best for driving. It’s not a long trip, and we can bring back quite a bit."
"The main thing is that I can meet various procurement staff and small leaders from different factories. These connections might come in handy someday," he added.
Tang Zhi didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity, especially since Ye Fangfei was the niece of his uncle; otherwise, he wouldn’t have such a chance every year. The drivers in the convoy were fiercely competing for this kind of work.
Seeing that Tang Zhi was determined, Ye Fangfei decided to go along with him but still wanted to prepare dinner early so he could rest afterward.
"I’ve rolled out the noodles; go get some cilantro for me while I cook the noodles," Ye Fangfei instructed. "After we eat, you should go to your room and rest."
"Okay, I’ll go right now," Tang Zhi replied before heading out.
The cilantro was something Ye Fangfei had grown herself in the backyard; as it got colder, she had covered it with straw and plastic. She picked it as needed.
Ye Fangfei fished out the cooked lamb offal and let it cool slightly before slicing what needed to be sliced and shredding what needed to be shredded.
The meat from the sheep's head was also taken off, and there was quite a bit of offal from one sheep. Once everything was cut up, it filled a large bowl to the brim. The sheep broth was poured into another bowl, leaving only a few bowls' worth in the pot to make sheep offal noodles.
To prepare the noodles, the noodles and offal were cooked together in the sheep broth. Once cooked, seasonings were added, and just before serving, pepper powder and cilantro were sprinkled on top. Ye Fangfei even made some chili oil.
It smelled so good that if I weren't already full, I would have wanted another bowl, Tang Zhi thought as he reluctantly put down his chopsticks. He had eaten three whole bowls of sheep offal noodles, while Ye Fangfei had two.
"I'll make it for you again tomorrow," she said. There was still plenty of offal and broth left. Satisfied, Ye Fangfei also set down her chopsticks.
Seeing that she had finished eating, Tang Zhi remembered he needed to clean up the bowls and chopsticks. However, he was quickly stopped by Ye Fangfei. "You go rest in your room; I'll take care of these two bowls."
With that, she pushed him out of the kitchen and began washing the dishes at the stove herself. Tang Zhi knew his wife was just being considerate of him, so he didn’t argue and went to rest in the room while keeping an eye on the child.
