Only Little Moon stood there, watching her mother and Auntie laugh, shyly stamping her foot. "Mommy," she called.
Ye Fangfei noticed her daughter was annoyed and quickly stopped laughing. "Alright, dear, Mommy won't laugh anymore."
Wang Zhaodi and Zhang Man also ceased their laughter.
At that moment, Tang Zhi and the others came in.
Tang Zhi stepped forward to take Little Sun and placed him on the kang, removing his thick cotton coat.
"Is this Little Sun? Oh my, let Grandma take a look!" At this point, Grandma Tang couldn't care less about her son; she just wanted to hold Little Sun.
However, Little Sun was still small and suddenly seeing so many strangers made him a bit shy. When he saw Grandma Tang reaching for him, he instinctively hid in Tang Zhi's arms, clutching tightly to his neck.
Tang Zhi hugged Little Sun and said, "Son, this is Grandma. Grandma."
Little Sun blinked at Grandma Tang but didn't say anything.
Ye Fangfei noticed that Grandma Tang had come in only to dote on her grandson without even glancing at Little Moon.
Feeling upset, she pulled Little Moon closer to her.
Little Moon looked up at Grandma Tang and asked, "Mommy, is this my grandma?"
Ye Fangfei held Little Moon tighter without responding.
Tang Zhi immediately sensed that Ye Fangfei was unhappy. He felt a twinge of resentment toward Grandma Tang as well. "You know you favor boys over girls; can't you at least pretend? Don't make it so obvious."
Grandma Tang realized her mistake; she hadn't meant to ignore Little Moon. She had simply been overwhelmed with excitement upon seeing her grandson and had momentarily forgotten about her granddaughter.
Glancing at Ye Fangfei, she felt a bit intimidated by this third daughter-in-law. It was clear that her son listened more to his wife. When she had neglected to send gifts when Ye Fangfei gave birth to a granddaughter, her son hadn’t visited for years.
This time he only came because she had asked the eldest to write him a letter saying that the old man was sick.
She was genuinely afraid of making another mistake that would give her third daughter-in-law a reason to complain, leading to another long absence from her son.
So she quickly put on a smiling face and said to Little Moon, "Is this Little Moon? I’m Grandma! Come here so Grandma can see you."
Little Moon looked at Ye Fangfei and then at her father, Tang Zhi. In the end, she didn’t approach but merely leaned against Ye Fangfei’s leg and greeted Grandma Tang softly, "Hello, Grandma."
"Ah, good, good. This child is quite polite," Tang Laotai said with a hint of embarrassment.
Tang Laohan watched his wife in silence, feeling exasperated. He had clearly reminded her several times that when the third son and his family came over, she needed to be extra nice to the daughter-in-law and the children.
Yet, as soon as they stepped into the house, this incident occurred.
Tang Laohan shot his wife a glare and stepped forward to smooth things over. "Don't make a fuss, Third Son's family. Your mother just got a bit too excited seeing Little Sun."
"In our hearts, both grandsons and granddaughters are equally cherished."
"Little Moon, come here! Your grandmother has saved some delicious treats for you."
"Dear, this is your grandfather." Although Ye Fangfei felt uncomfortable inside, since the elders had spoken, she could only let it go for now.
"Hello, Grandpa." Little Moon was still young but sensed that the atmosphere was off.
After saying "Grandpa," she remained by Ye Fangfei's side without moving.
"Ah, good child," Tang Laohan replied warmly before turning to Tang Laotai. "It seems you've gotten a bit carried away with your happiness. Why don’t you bring out the treats you saved for the children?"
