After dinner, the family of four settled down for the night. The little moon was already tired and fell asleep shortly after lying down. However, the little sun had napped too much in the afternoon and was now bouncing around on the bed, refusing to sleep.
Ye Fangfei didn’t mind him and let him play by himself. She sat at the edge of the bed to prevent her son from falling off and pulled Tang Zhicheng to sit beside her.
“What’s wrong? Is there something you want to discuss?” Tang Zhicheng could tell from his wife’s serious expression that she had something on her mind.
“Um, this afternoon, my sister-in-law told me something, and I wanted to share it with you first,” Ye Fangfei said.
Seeing his wife’s solemn demeanor, Tang Zhicheng straightened up, “You can tell me.”
Ye Fangfei recounted what Zhang Man had said earlier that day and then shared her own thoughts on the matter. “I want to make it clear that I will never raise someone else’s child. If you feel sorry for your sister and want to take care of your niece, then we might as well get a divorce. I’ll take the two kids and manage on my own.” She was worried that Tang Zhicheng might soften at the thought, so she spoke firmly.
“What are you talking about? Why would we get a divorce?” Tang Zhicheng said angrily, squeezing Ye Fangfei’s hand tightly.
Seeing that he was upset, Ye Fangfei realized she had been too harsh. After all, she knew how well he had treated her since they got married, and she didn’t want to hurt his feelings.
“I didn’t really mean it; I was just saying that,” she quickly explained. “I’m just worried you might agree to your mother or sister if they ask you nicely. We have a daughter and a son; there’s no need to raise someone else’s child. Not even your niece.”
She emphasized her point once more.
Tang Zhicheng understood that his wife wouldn’t genuinely want a divorce, but hearing the word from her lips still made him angry. However, he couldn’t bring himself to take it out on Ye Fangfei; his earlier anger had only resulted in him squeezing her hand a bit harder and speaking more forcefully than usual.
Frustrated but unable to vent his feelings toward his wife, he redirected his anger toward Tang Jing. It was all his sister’s fault for stirring up trouble and discussing things with their mother, which led to his sister-in-law hearing about it and telling Ye Fangfei.
Wasn’t this just asking for trouble? Everything was fine until now, and now his wife was upset.
Worried that Ye Fangfei might get sick from being angry, he quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry, even if you hadn’t said anything, I would never agree to that.”
The money I earn is for you and the children, but I won't support someone else's kids. However, my dear wife, please don't mention divorce or leaving me again. I've always been devoted to you, and hearing you say that really hurts me. After expressing his determination, Tang Zhicheng also shared his grievances.
Ye Fangfei realized her reaction was a bit excessive and quickly pulled Tang Zhicheng closer to comfort him. "Oh, I was just saying that. You treat me so well; how could I ever want a divorce?"
Tang Zhicheng remained silent, looking at Ye Fangfei with a hurt expression in his eyes.
Feeling helpless, Ye Fangfei could only reassure him again, "Alright, I'm sorry. I promise I won't say that again."
Hearing Ye Fangfei's promise, Tang Zhicheng felt satisfied, but he still wanted to take the opportunity to ask for something in return. "Then you need to make it up to me tonight."
Ye Fangfei looked at him speechlessly; he truly left her at a loss for words. After saying this, Tang Zhicheng turned away from Ye Fangfei and pulled their little sun over to soothe him to sleep.
