Ye Fangfei had no idea that Wang Zhaodi and Zhang Man were envious of her.
As she stepped out with Tang Zhicheng, the cold air hit her just as she had described. Even though Ye Fangfei was fully equipped with gloves and a hat, the biting north wind still found its way into her collar.
"Oh, it's so cold! Maybe we shouldn't go after all," she said, hesitating at the door.
Tang Zhicheng, having grown up in this area, was accustomed to the chill. Dressed in a military coat that offered good protection against the wind, he didn’t feel particularly cold.
He touched Ye Fangfei's hand and confirmed it was indeed very chilly. "Wife, wait here; I'll get you a cotton coat," he said, turning back inside.
Ye Fangfei followed him in, knowing she wouldn’t be left out in the cold.
Once back inside, Tang Zhicheng retrieved a new cotton coat from the cupboard. "Here, wife, put this on," he said, handing it to her.
"Where did this come from?" Ye Fangfei asked as she looked at the pristine coat in her hands.
"This was made by my mother; she gave it to me yesterday. I was afraid you might think it was ugly and refuse to wear it, so I didn’t show it to you," Tang Zhicheng explained.
The cotton coat was a simple blue fabric, and Ye Fangfei did find it somewhat unattractive. If it weren't for the freezing weather outside, she would have preferred not to wear it at all.
However, since they were going out to see the snow scenery today and she was worried about the cold, she reluctantly put it on. The coat was quite oversized, so she wore it over her outer garment.
To her surprise, the homemade cotton coat was indeed warm; once she donned it, the wind couldn’t penetrate through anymore.
Stepping outside again, Ye Fangfei felt significantly warmer in the coat.
The two of them walked in silence along the way, but whenever they encountered icy patches on the road, Tang Zhicheng would reach out with one hand to hold onto Ye Fangfei for support.
After about ten minutes of walking, they arrived at a grove of pine trees outside the village.
"Wow! This is so beautiful!" Ye Fangfei exclaimed as she gazed in awe at the stunning scenery before her.
"Isn't it lovely? I told you you'd like it," Tang Zhicheng replied with a smile.
"It's beautiful," Ye Fangfei said, struggling to find the words to describe the scene before her. The mist hung in the air like a fairyland.
The little sun wrapped in Tang Zhicheng's arms peeked out, his head bobbing as he mimicked her words, "Beautiful, beautiful." He didn't fully understand but followed along because Ye Fangfei said it was nice.
Ye Fangfei chuckled at the little one before turning her attention back to the stunning view. After all, she had only seen such scenery when she returned home shortly after their wedding, when Tang Zhicheng had taken her to see it once. That visit had been in the afternoon, lacking the ethereal mist that enveloped them now.
However, it was too cold outside, and even the most beautiful sights could become mundane after a while. After about ten minutes of admiring the landscape, Ye Fangfei decided it was time to head back.
"Let's go back," she said.
"Don't you want to stay a little longer?" Tang Zhicheng asked.
"No, it's time to cook. Let's go back," Ye Fangfei replied.
Tang Zhicheng didn't argue; he always prioritized Ye Fangfei's wishes. If she wanted to return because it was chilly, then they would go home.
Upon arriving back at their house, they found Wang Zhaodi and Zhang Man busy in the kitchen preparing dinner.
