Ye Fangfei let Tang Zhicheng watch the little sun while she went to help in the kitchen. 0

"Sister-in-law, second sister-in-law, is there anything I can do?" Ye Fangfei asked. 0

Wang Zhaodi turned around and saw Ye Fangfei standing there in her coat. She quickly replied, "No, no, third sister-in-law, you should go outside. The kitchen is full of smoke; you might get your clothes dirty." 0

Zhang Man chimed in, "Yes, third sister-in-law, you should stay in the house. We don’t need your help here. If your coat gets stained with oil, it’ll be ruined." 0

"It’s fine; I can wash it later," Ye Fangfei insisted. After all, they were all wives in the same family, and she felt it was inappropriate to just sit and wait for food. 0

Seeing that Ye Fangfei was determined to stay and help, Wang Zhaodi and Zhang Man relented. They only asked her to peel a few potatoes. 0

Lunch consisted of sticky rice dumplings, stir-fried shredded potatoes, and a mutton offal soup that had been simmering all morning. 0

During the meal, although Tang Laotai tried hard to hide it, Tang Laohan noticed something was off with his wife. 0

After they finished eating and the sons and daughters-in-law returned to their own rooms, Tang Laohan finally asked Tang Laotai, "Old lady, what’s wrong? I noticed something was off as soon as you came back." 0

Tang Laotai had been feeling stifled and upset; when no one asked her about it, she felt a little better. But now that Tang Laohan had asked, her eyes immediately turned red. "Old man, today Zhijing came back; she’s with the third one." 0

Tang Laotai began to choke up and couldn’t continue. 0

Seeing his wife in tears made Tang Laohan anxious. "What happened? Just tell me!" 0

"Old man," she said through her tears, "the third one said he won’t have anything to do with Zhijing anymore." 0

"What are we going to do about this?" Tang Laotai lamented. "The third one is too heartless; Zhijing is his own sister! Just because of his wife’s temper, he’s cutting ties with his sister." Tang Laotai couldn’t help but express her grievances against Tang Zhicheng. 0

"Did Zhijing do something to anger the third one’s wife? Otherwise, why would he suddenly want to sever ties?" Tang Laohan quickly grasped the crux of the matter. 0

Tang Laotai felt a bit deflated but knew she couldn’t keep quiet after being asked. She reluctantly recounted what had happened. 0

"What? You talked about the third family behind their backs and let them hear it?" 0

"Old lady, old lady, what can I say to you?" 0

"I’ve told you many times that it’s best for Zhijing to come back less often and not get involved in family matters. But you just wouldn’t listen." 0

"And now look what happened! You’ve angered the third one." 0

"And didn’t I tell you not to mention San Ni’s affairs to them? Why did you still bring it up?" 0

"You brought this upon yourselves. I told you this wouldn't work out, but you wouldn't listen and insisted on talking about it. Isn't this just asking for trouble?" The old man, Tang, huffed as he paced around the room. 0

"What should we do then? Old man, think of a way! We can't let the third one really ignore his sister," Tang's wife urged anxiously. 0

"You know how stubborn he is. Once he makes up his mind, who can change it?" Tang replied dismissively. 0

"You all brought this on yourselves; I won't take responsibility for it," he added. 0

Tang's wife regretted her actions; she hadn't anticipated that a few words could lead to such a serious situation. If she had known earlier, she would have stopped Tang Zhijing the moment she opened her mouth. 0

But there was no remedy for regret in this world. Now that things had come to this point, it was useless to feel remorse. 0

"Are we just going to watch them like this?" Tang's wife said despondently. 0

Although Tang was frustrated with her foolishness, he couldn't help but feel sympathy for her after spending a lifetime together. He comforted her, "Don't get too worked up. The third one and Zhijing are siblings. Siblings don't hold grudges overnight; maybe they'll forget about it by tomorrow." 0
