Gu Qingning and her companions had been chatting in the front courtyard for less than two hours when Uncle Ming hurriedly arrived. He spoke urgently, saying that the Marquis wanted the young lady to come over quickly; it was said that Young Master Gu was on the verge of death.

If they did happen to encounter such a situation, as a precaution, the maternal family would send their daughter and son-in-law back early to avoid any unwanted disturbances.
Listening to Gu Changqing's words, Gu Qingning took Pei Zhijing and boarded the carriage. After they left, Gu Changqing and his son hurried to the second house to see what was happening.
In the courtyard of the Zhongyuan Marquisate, as soon as Gu Changqing and his son stepped inside, they heard heart-wrenching cries coming from within. Entering the inner room, Gu Changqing saw Li Ruofeng kneeling by Gu Yuxuan's bed in disarray, her eyes red as she cried out loudly, "My son! How could you leave your mother all alone?"
Pei Zhirui had not expected that following Gu Yanran to the Zhongyuan Marquisate would lead to such a tragic event. He comforted Gu Yanran, suggesting she stay with her grieving mother before leaving.

Gu Siyuan ordered someone to take down the lanterns that had been hanging at the entrance for less than three days and replace them with white strips of cloth.

Gu Yuxuan's health declined further due to complications from ailments he had since birth, striking fiercely and unexpectedly.
Today, upon hearing that both of his sisters had returned home, he felt motivated to walk around a bit more for some energy. However, before he could even step out of the courtyard, he fainted on the ground. Li Ruofeng refused to let him leave the house at all.
In just a short time over a meal, Li Ruofeng never imagined that Gu Yuxuan would be lost like this.
The old matriarch sat nearby with a sorrowful expression and ordered someone to pull Li Ruofeng away.
"Xuan'er! My Xuan'er! Xuan'er is not dead; I will stay by my Xuan'er!" Li Ruofeng cried as she struggled against being moved away from Gu Yuxuan's bedside. "Open your eyes and look at your mother! Open your eyes!"
Gu Yanran helped Li Ruofeng back to her courtyard, assisting her to lie down and tucking her in snugly. She turned to the elderly maid beside her and said, "Maid, please keep an eye on my mother. If she wakes up, come and call me."
