Gu Yan shivered at the coldness on Shi Zimo's face. When she learned that Pei Zhirui had asked Emperor Jing to marry Gu Wanqing, she was furious. No matter how much she had sacrificed, Pei Zhirui's eyes were only on Gu Qingning, and nothing else mattered to him.
Even a blind Gu Wanqing held a higher place in his heart than she did. The royal family had a longstanding rule that those born with physical defects could not enter the royal jade dish. For many years, everyone had focused solely on Gu Qingning, never considering that there was another Gu Wanqing in the household.

Pei Zhirui knew she was coming to make trouble for Gu Wanqing, yet before leaving the residence, he merely advised her not to go too far. Unable to vent her frustration on Gu Wanqing, she turned her ire towards Xiangling, who happened to be at the gate of the courtyard.
"The imperial consort has arrived; please come in for a chat," Shi Zimo said coldly as he looked at the high-and-mighty Gu Yan. He gave her the respect of addressing her as "imperial consort," fully aware of the pretense she was putting on.
Businesspeople were always adaptable; a mere title meant nothing significant to them. However, Gu Yan felt uneasy in front of Shi Zimo. What did he intend to do? She had come looking for trouble, yet he invited her in instead.
"Please come in, imperial consort!" Gu Wanqing understood Shi Zimo's intention immediately.
With her head held high and a proud demeanor, Gu Yan strode into Qiu Shui Garden. Hongling secretly urged Xiangling to quickly fetch some ice to soothe the swelling on one side of her face. Xiangling covered her burning cheek and quietly withdrew.
Hongling turned and brewed a pot of good tea for Gu Yan before standing by Gu Wanqing’s side.
"Sister, let's get straight to the point!"
Gu Wan Ning didn't want to engage in the usual round of flattery or tug-of-war with Gu Yan. She had no desire to marry into the royal family, and Gu Yan was jealous that she had taken the position and person that rightfully belonged to her.
It was just right that they would temporarily cooperate. Gu Yan pretended to sip her tea gracefully before speaking. "You are not worthy of marrying into the Second Prince's residence, and I do not wish for you to do so either."
The position of the rightful consort was hers; how could Gu Wan Ning dare to surpass her and stand above her? That would be too humiliating.
It was better for them to work together than for Gu Yan to fight alone. "This suits me just fine. If not, if you dare to undermine me, there will be a second and a third."
Gu Yan was taken aback. This blind girl, who had always been silent, was now so articulate; she had underestimated her. It was hard to believe.
Shi Zi Mo sat quietly beside Gu Wan Ning, saying nothing. Gu Yan glanced at the two of them, wondering what clever plan they might have to share. She truly had no idea that if she had known earlier, she wouldn't have needed to sit here chatting with them at all. Had she known that Pei Zhi Rui wouldn't spare even Gu Wan Ning, she should have acted sooner to eliminate her once and for all.
