Wu Rong's gaze grew increasingly dangerous as he stood a step away from Nina and asked, "Is what you call determination really just about making me break up with Rao Jie?"
Rao Jie glanced back and forth between the two, struggling to imagine any emotional entanglement Wu Rong might have had with Nina before meeting her.
Nina raised an eyebrow and said in a businesslike manner, "This is just a necessary step. My purpose here is to take you back, so you need to break up with your Little Girlfriend and resign from your job. You should come with me."
Wu Rong scoffed, "You know my temperament. No one can force me to do what I don't want to do. Please go back and don't disturb us!"
Nina sneered, "Not a chance. I won't give up until I achieve my goal. Wu Rong, I won't let you wallow in self-destruction here."
Nina's words were always so piercing.
Although Rao Jie couldn't argue with Nina, she couldn't just stand by and do nothing. She stepped out from behind the counter and walked over to Wu Rong, taking his hand as if to assert her claim.
Nina watched Rao Jie's actions without much change in her expression, but her eyes sharpened as if she had been provoked.
Nina couldn't help but look up at Wu Rong, only to find that the anger that had consumed him moments ago seemed to have vanished in an instant. Was this still Wu Rong?
In the past, whenever Wu Rong was angry, one could only wait for his fury to subside; no one dared approach him during those moments. Yet now, it seemed that a simple gesture from this seemingly insignificant woman could calm him down. Did she truly mean something different to Wu Rong?
If that were the case, then they absolutely could not be together.
Rao Jie looked up at Nina and said, "Are you really just here to take Wu Rong back to England for research and to see his professor? Regardless of whether Wu Rong agrees or not, it seems unrelated to our relationship. What gives you the right to make us break up? Do you..."
Nina's brow twitched slightly before she quickly replied, "Don't misunderstand. I'm doing this entirely for Wu Rong's sake. I consider him a friend and naturally want the best for him. And you... hmph... do you think you're worthy of him?"
Rao Jie's face went pale instantly. Wasn't Nina in love with Wu Rong? Did she truly look down on her and believe she wasn't worthy? Was that why she was targeting her?
"What did you say?" Wu Rong would never allow anyone to speak about Rao Jie like that.
Nina replied, "Is there anything I've said that's incorrect? Do you think you're a match for her? I can't see how; her presence will only weaken your focus on mathematical research. I've seen the award-winning research report you mentioned before—what does that even mean? Does that represent your level? Since you've been back here, you've been influenced by these people; can't you feel your skills deteriorating? High IQ individuals who associate with those of lower intelligence only end up being dragged down into complacency. She's an obstacle in your research career; how can you allow someone who disrupts your work to stay by your side?"
Rao Jie felt utterly defeated under Nina's verbal assault.
What she said seemed both reasonable and unreasonable; she spoke harshly yet with an air of certainty as if everything she said was the truth. Confident and arrogant, looking down on others while focusing solely on Wu Rong, claiming everything was for his benefit—perhaps that's how these geniuses viewed the world.
