She couldn't help but blame herself for being so foolish back then, not even leaving a contact method. Now, she found herself unable to sleep, consumed by thoughts of him. Once she dealt with her current situation, she was determined to fly to another country to find him!
With that thought, Chi Mu Jiu felt as if she had been injected with adrenaline; she leaped out of bed, her resolve unshakeable, as if nothing could stand in her way.
Chi Mu Jiu wasn't much of a cook, and since there was no maid at home, she could only grab a piece of bread for lunch to fill her stomach before rushing out the door.
There was a car parked in the garage, but it was a manual transmission. Chi Mu Jiu lacked confidence in her driving skills and was hesitant to drive it. As for why she had bought a manual car in the first place, it was probably because its sleek design had struck her heart at first glance.
Should she hire a driver? The thought flashed through her mind, but now wasn't the time to consider that.
"Miss has arrived."
The driver's voice pulled her back from her thoughts.
"Thank you," she replied quickly after settling the fare and stepped through the gate of the Chi family courtyard.
"Miss, you’re back!"
"Welcome back, Miss!"
The household servants working in the courtyard greeted her respectfully.
Just as Chi Mu Jiu was about to enter the main hall, she heard Chi Qi Yun's intermittent sobs echoing through the quiet courtyard. The sound stood out starkly against the silence.
She couldn't help but roll her eyes. Stepping inside, she raised her voice impatiently, "What’s all that noise? I can hear it before I even walk in. It’s so annoying!"
Her shout caused everyone sitting in the living room to turn and look at her in unison.
Chi Qi Yun was startled into silence; just moments ago, she had been crying softly but now struggled to hold back tears. She looked as if she had suffered a great injustice.
"Oh, Mu Jiu is back,"
Ji Yu Yan glanced towards Chi Mu Jiu and then looked behind her with a sarcastic tone.
"Is this someone coming back?"
The tone was laced with sarcasm and provocation.
Chi Mu Jiu refused to back down, plopping herself down in the center of the living room sofa. She took the teacup from the maid with one hand, took a delicate sip, and retorted without hesitation, "I’m not the one who went to a hotel with someone, nor would I shamelessly attend a banquet under the guise of finding a wealthy husband."
Her eyes were filled with disdain and anger as she fixed her gaze on Ji Yu Yan and Chi Qi Yun.
"You! Sister, how can you say that? I’m doing this for the sake of the Chi family and considering Dad’s long-term development! How can you treat me like this? How will I face others in the future?"
As she spoke, Chi Qi Yun began to sob softly, her face streaked with faint tear marks, looking pitiful.
But Chi Mu Jiu knew all too well that this was just her usual tactic; she was quite the actress. Attending banquets under someone else's name to catch big fish—after all, it wasn’t her reputation on the line, right?
What a lotus flower character she played, yet it was so obvious how she manipulated the situation.
Just as Chi Mu Jiu was about to continue her rebuttal, the usually indifferent elder of the Chi family spoke up from across the room:
"Mu Jiu, enough. Although Qi Yun is in the wrong, as her sister, how could you let her lose face at the Ye family banquet?"
Hearing her father’s reprimand only fueled Chi Mu Jiu’s anger further, but she had no choice but to suppress her temper.
She understood that her father wasn’t upset about Qi Yun embarrassing herself at the banquet; rather, he was scolding her for disregarding the Chi family's reputation and allowing them to lose face in front of other prominent families.
But Father, don’t you see? If the upper beam is not straight, the lower beam will be crooked.
Isn’t this chaotic situation at home a result of your indulgence and favoritism?
Chi Mu Jiu bit her lip tightly, clenching her fists in silence, her eyes revealing a hint of stubbornness and unwillingness.
"So what do you want to do?"
