Chi Feng never expected his daughter to ask such a question. He knew her character all too well; she had always been stubborn and unwilling to back down or suffer losses. Yet now, Chi Mu Jiu was asking him how to handle this matter. This was clearly a sign of her yielding.
Chi Qi Yun and Ji Yu Yan exchanged glances filled with triumph and calculation. They could not outmaneuver Chi Mu Jiu, but that did not mean Chi Feng could not control her. Chi Mu Jiu’s hand trembled slightly as she held the teacup, her throat tightening with emotion. “Do you truly believe that Chi Qi Yun is pursuing a relationship with Lei Ji for your sake or for the Chi family?”
“What do you mean by that, Chi Mu Jiu? Our Qi Yun is willing to actively engage with influential families for the benefit of the Chi family. You, relying on your status as the eldest daughter of the Chi family, took away the invitation and embarrassed Qi Yun at the banquet. I see you as the unfilial daughter trying to ruin the Chi family!” Ji Yu Yan could no longer sit still upon hearing Chi Mu Jiu’s pointed remarks aimed at her precious daughter. She shouted angrily at Chi Mu Jiu, her voice sharp and grating.
In the Chi household, Ji Yu Yan was the matriarch.
Chi Mu Jiu found herself laughing in anger and retorted defiantly, “The invitation was meant for me! I am the eldest daughter of the Chi family—the only one!”
Her eyes were resolute and unyielding; she would not back down.
“Enough! Say no more!”
Chi Feng slammed his hand on the table with a resounding thud that echoed throughout the room, deafening in its intensity. The water in the teacup splashed everywhere like droplets flying from an explosion.
His face was dark, and his eyes revealed an undeniable authority. In the Chi family, he was the absolute power, and no one dared to defy him.
Ji Yuyan sat back down, silent as a mouse, afraid to say another word. Chi Mu Jiu also fell silent, her eyes filled with frustration and helplessness. Only Chi Qi Yun occasionally let out a soft hum, her faint voice seeming insignificant in the tense atmosphere.
"As a member of the Chi family, you must follow my rules. Mu Jiu, did you hear me? I see that Mr. Ye treats you quite well; didn't you spend last night together?"
Chi Feng's authoritative and questioning voice echoed in the spacious living room, causing Chi Mu Jiu's heart to tremble.
Chi Mu Jiu felt utterly exasperated by her family's antics. She widened her eyes and glared at her father in anger. "Mr. Ye and I are merely acquaintances; there is nothing more between us! Are you so eager to marry off your own daughter?"
Her voice was filled with emotion, trembling slightly as she expressed her confusion and disappointment towards her father.
"Grandfather, since Mu Jiu has said there’s nothing between her and President Ye, then isn’t the heir of the Su family coming to visit?" Ji Yuyan interjected, her tone shifting as a flattering smile concealed her inscrutable thoughts.
"The Su family? Su Si Yi?" Chi Mu Jiu quickly searched her mind for information about Su Si Yi. The Su family had a good relationship with the Chi family and often interacted in business.
Chi Feng nodded at Chi Mu Jiu. "If you can form an alliance with the Su family and Qi Yun can build connections with the Lei family, then our Chi family's influence in the city could rival that of the Ye family."
His eyes were filled with a desire for family benefits, completely ignoring his daughter's pain and helplessness.
"Father..."
