Since the last time the Chi family came storming in to cause trouble, and after Ji Yuyan fell and was hurriedly taken to the hospital, Chi Qiyun seemed to have genuinely calmed down for a while, no longer showing up to harass Chi Mujiu as she had before.
As for Chi's father, he was infuriated by his daughter Chi Mujiu's choice of a male model, which caused his blood pressure to spike and led to a diagnosis of hypertension. Now, the Chi family had very few bargaining chips left. He had originally planned for his two daughters to further the family's interests through business marriages, but now that plan had already fallen apart halfway.
Chi Mujiu was well aware that her relationship with her father had become increasingly precarious after that incident. She knew that under such circumstances, her father would trust Chi Qiyun more, as she was the only pawn left relatively unscathed. However, this was not entirely a bad thing for Chi Mujiu; at least in recent days, she had enjoyed some rare moments of peace.
Yet, she couldn't shake off the worry that her situation might spread like wildfire in the business circle. But she didn’t care much about these trivial matters. Deep down, she had never felt at home in the complex and profit-driven world of business.
"What are you thinking about? It's your turn."
Du Hengyan's soft and magnetic voice pulled Chi Mujiu back from her wandering thoughts. She gently shook her head and looked at the chessboard before her as if awakening from a dream.
On one side, there were horses poised for battle; on the other side, two cannons were glaring menacingly; in front, a chariot was pressing towards the king. Clearly, she had cornered herself into a dead end again! Chi Mujiu clicked her tongue in frustration, her face filled with unwillingness.
"Another checkmate! How bold!"
Annoyed, Chi Mujiu muttered under her breath: "Every time it’s me who gets forced into a dead end. How am I supposed to play like this?"
"Du Hengyan, did you really grow up abroad? How can you play Chinese chess so expertly?"
As she spoke, she scrutinized the man across from her with a skeptical gaze. Du Hengyan raised an eyebrow at her question, a smirk playing on his lips as he teased back: "Who says you can't play Chinese chess just because you grew up abroad?"
Chi Mujiu widened her eyes in disbelief. "But you're not just good at Chinese chess; I've never beaten you at international chess, checkers, or gomoku either!"
At this point, Chi Mu Jiu was even more infuriated.
"Even if I buy Monopoly online for us to play together, I still can't beat you! Have you been practicing secretly?"
Du Heng Yan, faced with her accusations, merely shrugged and smiled without saying a word.
However, Chi Mu Jiu clearly caught a hint of arrogance in his seemingly calm eyes, which only fueled her anger further.
"No way! Let's go again! I refuse to believe this! How about I use double cannons?"
With her hands on her hips, Chi Mu Jiu adopted a defiant stance.
"Alright."
Du Heng Yan readily agreed, a hint of indulgence showing in his expression.
Chi Mu Jiu reset the pieces and focused intently on the board, while Du Heng Yan remained calm and composed, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth as if everything was under his control.
The game resumed, and Chi Mu Jiu began cautiously laying out her strategy, considering each move carefully.
However, as the game progressed, she found herself gradually falling into a passive position. Du Heng Yan's moves were always unexpected, leaving her unable to defend herself effectively.
"Oh no, I’m done! I can’t keep playing; I keep losing, and it’s so demoralizing!"
Chi Mu Jiu slumped helplessly in her chair, completely giving up and feeling dejected. It seemed like this man could do anything effortlessly and win at every game.
She truly wondered just how deep this male model's skills ran; why did it feel like he was proficient in everything?
"Du Heng Yan, is there anything you can’t do?"
Chi Mu Jiu looked up at the man across from her, her eyes filled with both helplessness and curiosity.
"There is."
Du Heng Yan slightly curled his lips into a smile, his response clear and concise.
"What is it?"
Chi Mu Jiu pressed eagerly for an answer.
"I can’t leave you."
Du Heng Yan's voice was deep and magnetic as he fixed his determined gaze on Chi Mu Jiu.
Feeling Flustered
As the evening sun began to set, Jiu turned her head away, trying to hide her embarrassment.
"Don't like it?" Du Heng raised an eyebrow, seemingly dissatisfied with her reaction.
"I don't know!"
