As soon as the words left his mouth, Zhu Chen and Ye Jue's gazes met, quickly exchanging a knowing look.
The silent communication between them felt like an electric shock, instantly reaching a certain understanding. Their expressions hardened, as if they sensed the tricky situation that lay ahead.
At that moment, Du Hengyan’s face beneath the mask had turned icy cold, exuding a chill that seemed capable of freezing the air around him. The invisible pressure spread outward like surging waves, sending shivers down their spines.
Zhu Chen and Ye Jue felt a cold sweat trickle down their backs, silently gripping their palms in anxiety. They dared not meet Du Hengyan’s cold, oppressive gaze, feeling that locking eyes with him would leave them frozen in place.
A desperate thought surged in both of their minds: they had seemingly ruined something important for their boss. Sweat beads uncontrollably formed on their foreheads.
Noticing the crowd around them, Chi Mu Jiu realized it was inappropriate to remain in Du Hengyan's arms and hurriedly got down from him. Her movements were slightly hurried, and she stumbled a bit as her feet hit the ground. Her face flushed crimson, resembling a ripe apple, betraying a hint of panic.
The two newcomers quickly assessed the situation; seeing their boss's expression told them things were not looking good. They internally lamented and scrambled to devise a plan.
"President Ye?"
Seeing the two men enter without speaking, merely standing there in silence, Chi Mu Jiu called out again. Her clear voice shattered the suffocating silence but only made Ye Jue and Zhu Chen’s hearts race even faster.
"You... you are Miss Chi?" Ye Jue asked uncertainly, his voice trembling slightly.
His gaze lingered on Chi Mu Jiu for a moment before darting away like he had been electrocuted, unwilling to linger any longer.
The woman accompanying his boss was indeed Chi Mu Jiu?
Ye Jue's mind was filled with surprise and confusion, like turbulent waves crashing within him. He never imagined he would encounter Chi Mu Jiu here, especially in such an awkward situation.
"Yes, President Ye. We must thank you for reserving such a great spot for us," Chi Mu Jiu said politely, though she was puzzled inside. Wasn't this arrangement made by him? Why did it seem like President Ye was unaware of it? Her gaze reflected her confusion and questioned Ye Jue.
"It’s nothing; I’m just glad Miss Chi and your friend are satisfied," Ye Jue replied, wiping the sweat from his brow and speaking somewhat nervously.
He could feel his boss's indifferent gaze directed at him.
"Why do you seem like you’re not here to see me but rather to meet my friend?"
Chimu Jiu furrowed her brows, her voice laced with curiosity as she asked. Her gaze shifted back and forth between Ye Jue and Zhu Zhan, trying to decipher the truth from their expressions.
Her eyes were sharp and perceptive, as if they could see through a lie.
"Do you know him?"
Chimu Jiu's voice rang out again, tinged with inquiry and suspicion. She fixed her gaze on them, not letting any subtle change in their expressions slip by unnoticed.
Chimu Jiu sensed that something was amiss, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Anyone who could accompany Ye Jue must surely be another partner in this auction. Yet the peculiarities of the situation left her feeling perplexed.
Zhu Zhan suddenly turned pale.
So, Ye Jue's boss was his boss too.
The situation was a bit chaotic, and what mattered most now was how to smooth things over without making his boss angrier or letting the situation spiral further out of control. His mind raced as he considered how to handle this predicament.
"Should we know each other?"
Zhu Zhan's unexpected question instantly dropped the already tense atmosphere to freezing point.
Chimu Jiu looked bewildered, completely unprepared for such a remark.
Ye Jue was equally thrown off by Zhu Zhan's sudden comment, feeling a wave of dread wash over him as beads of sweat formed on his forehead.
