Beneath the brilliant starlight, his profile was accentuated, each line perfectly defined, radiating an irresistible charm.
"Try this; it should taste good," Du Hengyan said gently, pushing a plate of tender cod toward Chi Mujiu.
Chi Mujiu nodded obediently, like a well-behaved child. When it came to eating, Du Hengyan always exhibited an almost compulsive attitude, as if he feared he wouldn't get enough to eat.
At the nearby table, Ye Jue and Zhu Chen silently enjoyed their dinner, exchanging no words, creating a rather dull atmosphere that sharply contrasted with the lively interaction between Du Hengyan and Chi Mujiu.
"Care for a drink?" Du Hengyan noticed Chi Mujiu's hesitance and raised his delicate wine glass slightly, tilting his head toward her with an expression of inquiry and anticipation.
Chi Mujiu didn't hesitate.
The two elegant goblets clinked together, producing a clear and melodious sound that resonated in the otherwise quiet space. The crimson wine slid down Chi Mujiu's delicate jaw and into her mouth; she gulped it down in one go.
Du Hengyan's lips curled into a slight smile, his eyes glimmering with a barely perceptible amusement.
Was she really drinking red wine? It seemed more like she was treating it as if it were white liquor. Should I commend your drinking capacity or your boldness? Du Hengyan's eyes narrowed slightly.
Surprisingly, Chi Mujiu did not retort to his teasing this time. Her attention was firmly captured by the exorbitant number displayed on the electronic screen.
Du Hengyan, have you lost your mind?! Her eyes widened in shock and disbelief as she stared at the screen, counting the figures repeatedly in her mind.
One hundred thousand, million, ten million, billion. She counted all the way to billion!
I asked you for help; I didn’t mean for you to buy out everything at such a high price! Her voice trembled slightly as she snatched the electronic screen away, her fingers quickly tapping in an attempt to revise the bid, but all was in vain.
The screen still firmly displayed the astonishing figure of one hundred million. Since Du Hengyan had offered a buyout price, the numbers on the screen hadn't changed at all. This meant that Du Hengyan's bid had already been finalized and could not be altered.
"One hundred million, are you happy with that? Isn't it quite a bargain?"
Du Hengyan appeared indifferent, his expression suggesting that this sum was merely a trivial number to him.
Chi Mu Jiu furrowed her brows tightly, her face filled with anxiety as she said, "Where did you get so much money?" She deliberately lowered her voice and leaned in closer to him. "If you don't have it, we can still run away now!" Worry and unease shone in her eyes.
However, Du Hengyan firmly grasped her wrist, his grip steady and strong. "I've already placed my bid. If you leave now, that spot will be taken by someone else."
As he spoke, he glanced toward the group of people seated in the banquet hall. Chi Mu Jiu followed his gaze and saw Chi Qiyun and Lei Ji animatedly discussing something with several major shareholders from other companies. Their expressions were serious and focused, tinged with reluctance; it seemed they were trying to win over these wealthy and influential individuals to invest alongside them for something they desired.
"Sit down; you can relax with me here," Du Hengyan said as he patted her hand, attempting to soothe her panic and unease. "Don't worry about the money issue. Since I've made this offer, I can certainly come up with the funds." He added confidently, "Even if I take out the money, that person surnamed Ye wouldn't dare accept a single cent."
