"Please continue your meal; I won't disturb you any further," said Ye Jue, addressing the two of them. "As for the contract, Miss Chi, you can sign it at any time."
"Alright, Mr. Ye," she replied.
Chi Mu Jiu noticed that Ye Jue spoke with more respect than usual. Once Ye Jue and Zhu Tan had walked away, she took her seat again. A hint of confusion crossed her delicate features as she murmured softly to herself, "Why does it feel like something's off?"
But when she turned her head, she saw her plate piled high with food.
"You glutton," she said with a bitter smile, shaking her head.
"Everything I picked is what you like to eat," Du Cheng Yan replied as he took the contract from her hand and set it aside on the table. "Let’s not talk about work while eating."
Chi Mu Jiu was momentarily at a loss for words, unsure how to respond.
"Du Cheng Yan, have you noticed that we seem to have forgotten to pay?" After a moment, she seemed to remember something.
"We already paid," Du Cheng Yan answered casually.
"When? How come I didn’t know?" Chi Mu Jiu looked at him in confusion.
"You were so engrossed in chatting with someone else that you didn’t even notice me," he said, his tone laced with jealousy. The slight furrow of his brow and his somewhat dissatisfied gaze made Chi Mu Jiu's heart soften.
"Aren't you going to coax me?"
Du Hengyan's gaze held a hint of expectation.
"How... how can I entertain so many people here?"
Chimu Jiu's cheeks flushed instantly, and she stammered, her eyes darting around, unable to meet Du Hengyan's intense stare. At that moment, the surrounding noise seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them in their own world.
"Du Hengyan, the night is lovely; would you like to go out and feel the sea breeze?"
"If this is your way of charming me, then I am truly honored."
A slight smile curved Du Hengyan's lips, his deep-set eyes shimmering with intrigue.
Just as Chimu Jiu stood up, she was met with the weight of his commanding gaze. He frowned slightly, his tone laced with a hint of dominance. "Planning to run away? Finish your meal first."
Caught off guard by his sudden words, Chimu Jiu found herself momentarily speechless and reluctantly sat back down.
"Alright, alright, I'll eat," she muttered under her breath, shooting him a glare.
Du Hengyan seemed unfazed by her annoyance; he simply smiled and continued to serve her food.
"Stop it! You know my appetite!"
"Yes, I know," he replied playfully, "but I just can't help teasing you."
"Excuse me, sir, miss, may I interrupt? Would you like a drink?"
At those words, Chimu Jiu paused slightly with her utensils in hand. The inevitable had finally arrived.
