In the lavish banquet hall, the atmosphere was lively. Chi Qiyun and Lei Ji held their wine glasses, their expressions slightly anxious as they descended from the upper banquet area. Their goal was clear: to toast to the mysterious lady in hopes of finding a chance for collaboration.
Chi Mu Jiu sat by the banquet table, not intending to engage in conversation. She knew Chi Qiyun's temperament all too well. Fortunately, at that moment, she wore a mask, preventing her from being recognized too quickly. As she secretly rejoiced, a sense of calm washed over her.
"My lady does not drink," she thought. "My lord does not drink either." Both Chi Mu Jiu and Du Hang did not even lift their heads, almost simultaneously rejecting the approach.
As Chi Qiyun and Lei Ji attempted to move closer, a bodyguard from the Ye family stood like an imposing iron tower, swiftly blocking their path. The two could only stand awkwardly, expressions of helplessness on their faces. They hadn’t even gotten close before being turned away, which left them feeling somewhat frustrated.
"My lady, regarding the collaboration document you took a photo of, may I ask..." Chi Qiyun's voice echoed in the banquet hall, tinged with caution. Before she could finish her sentence, Chi Mu Jiu interrupted her mercilessly.
"You know it's presumptuous; why even ask?" Chi Mu Jiu lowered her voice, her tone sharp and irresistible like a blade, rendering Chi Qiyun speechless in an instant.
However, Chi Qiyun did not give up; she remained undeterred. Even standing at the staircase landing, she continued to press on.
"My lady, you must not be from this city, right? Would you consider having another partner for collaboration with the Ye family’s troupe? We are a local troupe and have a good understanding of some business shares in this city."
Chi Qiyun worked hard to make her tone sound sincere and confident, attempting to sway the enigmatic lady before her.
Lei Ji quickly reacted, eagerly chiming in, "Yes, madam, please consider it. We are willing to offer a better price for the book you won at auction!"
Their eyes were filled with anticipation, as if they had caught a glimpse of hope. However, Chi Mu Jiu and Du Heng ignored them completely, looking down on Chi Qi Yun and Lei Ji's proposal.
"Madam, we can offer an even better price if you agree," Chi Qi Yun spoke again, her voice tinged with urgency. She was desperate for this opportunity for collaboration, willing to do anything to secure it.
"Are you trying to negotiate business with me?" Chi Mu Jiu finally lifted her head, her gaze piercing through the mask towards Chi Qi Yun in the distance. The coldness and authority in her eyes made Chi Qi Yun shiver involuntarily.
What qualifications does someone who has to scrape together forty billion have to discuss business with me? This woman has calculated well; she has no money to spend but is now eagerly approaching me for a partnership opportunity.
Chi Mu Jiu's words struck Chi Qi Yun like a hammer, hitting her heart hard. Her voice was not loud, yet it rang out clearly amidst the noisy banquet hall.
Chi Qi Yun couldn't see her face clearly, but she felt an intense sense of familiarity from this lady. This feeling filled her with confusion and unease as she struggled to recall where she had seen this woman before.
"Madam, let's discuss this further," Chi Qi Yun said, her voice tinged with urgency and reluctance. She was still unwilling to give up and continued speaking in an attempt to salvage the situation.
At this point, Chi Mu Jiu was already feeling extremely irritated; the persistent chatter was like annoying flies buzzing around her ears. She simply waved her hand lightly, a seemingly casual gesture that carried undeniable authority—a clear dismissal.
The bodyguards understood the situation and gestured for them to leave, their attitude firm yet polite.
With no other choice, Chi Qi Yun and Lei Ji could only leave under the escort of the bodyguards, slowly making their way back to their own table at the banquet.
Meanwhile, those on the lower level who had been watching the scene began to whisper among themselves, exchanging hushed comments about what had just transpired.
