The night had deepened, and the room was filled with an ambiguous atmosphere. Du Hengyan tightly embraced the petite figure of Chi Mu Jiu beneath him, holding her until she could hardly breathe, her eyes misting over before he finally released her, satisfied.
Chi Mu Jiu's delicate makeup had smudged significantly on her lips. She gasped for air, taking a moment to regain her composure. With a glare at Du Hengyan, she said with irritation, "If you keep kissing me like this, I might just pass out one day."
Seeing her flustered expression, Du Hengyan's lips curled into a slight smile as he gently wiped away the lipstick that had smeared at the corner of her mouth. "Can I take that as an acknowledgment of my kissing skills?"
Chi Mu Jiu shot him a sidelong glance, huffed softly, and turned away, ignoring him.
"Calling me 'wife' really has become quite addictive," she muttered under her breath. "After you’ve been all over me like that, how am I supposed to feel sleepy?"
Du Hengyan merely smiled in response and got up to open the bathroom door. Within seconds, the sound of running water echoed from inside.
Chi Mu Jiu initially thought he was going to take a shower, but soon enough, his voice called out from the bathroom door, "The water temperature is just right."
She paused for a moment. "Alright then, with such thoughtfulness, I’ll reluctantly forgive you."
As she spoke to herself, she slowly got up. Chi Mu Jiu walked into the bathroom, greeted by the warm mist that enveloped her. This time, Du Hengyan didn’t tease her further but gently closed the door.
Chi Mu Jiu gradually shed her clothes; her fair skin glowed enticingly under the soft light. Stepping into the bathtub, the warm water instantly wrapped around her body.
After finishing her bath, Chi Mu Jiu emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a towel.
At that moment, Du Hengyan walked in from outside. She was drying her damp hair and looked up at him as he entered.
"Where have you been?"
Du Hengyan smirked slightly and replied, "Enjoying the sea breeze."
Chi Mu Jiu paused for a moment, puzzled. "Huh?"
Looking at her adorable expression, Du Hengyan teased, "Madam, you only know how to stoke the fire but not put it out. It puts me in a difficult position."
With that, he casually took the hairdryer from Chi Mu Jiu's hands. "Let me do it."
Chi Mu Jiu obediently sat down on the sofa while Du Hengyan stood behind her. The soft hum of the hairdryer filled the quiet room, like a gentle melody flowing through the air. The warm yellow light spilled over the two of them, casting a soft glow over the entire scene.
Du Hengyan's movements were incredibly gentle. His long fingers delicately ran through Chi Mu Jiu's wet strands of hair. The warm air evenly blew across each lock, and with his careful actions, Chi Mu Jiu felt herself growing drowsy.
"Du Hengyan, I'm sleepy."
"Mm, I can tell. Almost done, just be good."
"There are still many things to do today. I just want to finish up with the Chi family matters as soon as possible," she murmured.
Du Hengyan noticed her eyelids growing heavy; she was calling his name even as she fought to stay awake. Finally, he turned off the hairdryer and tossed it aside, gently lifting her up from the sofa as she struggled to keep her eyes open.
When Chi Mu Jiu woke up, she found that Du Hengyan was no longer in the room.
She looked at the empty bed on the other side and felt a surge of disappointment and unhappiness. Where had that guy run off to again? He had left without a word last night, and now he was missing again today.
She muttered to herself, growing increasingly irritated at not seeing him first thing in the morning. Sitting on the bed, Chi Mu Jiu contemplated how she would put on a displeased expression for Du Heng Yan when he returned.
