Du Hengyan's tone seemed stern, yet it carried a hint of concern. "Ye Qi, you should understand that any situation must prioritize your own safety. Bullets won't always miss by a millimeter."
The seriousness in Du Hengyan's eyes was evident. This time, Ye Qi had led his brothers into a trap that had been meticulously planned by the enemy. Not only did they nearly fail to deliver the arms, but almost all of his brothers were injured, and Ye Qi himself had been hit three times. The bullet that struck his chest had missed his heart by merely a millimeter.
Though Ye Qi was his subordinate, over the years, Du Hengyan had long regarded him as a brother in his heart, even if he never said it aloud. So when he heard about Ye Qi's situation, he rushed over immediately.
Ye Qi was a tough man; he managed to fight his way out with his brothers and held on until they reached the back courtyard for support.
"Boss, I understand," Ye Qi nodded. He wanted to get up from the hospital bed to salute Du Hengyan, but Du Hengyan pressed him back down.
"Don't move around. If your wound bursts open, I won't take responsibility. Just focus on healing; wait for me to handle things," Du Hengyan said firmly.
Lying on the hospital bed, Ye Qi felt a surge of emotion. He knew that his boss genuinely cared for him, and he would remember this bond forever.
Meanwhile, Du Hengyan stood by the bed, lost in thought. He wondered if Chi Mu Jiu had already arrived at the hospital and whether her wounds were being properly treated. He wished he could fly to her side immediately.
Seemingly sensing Du Hengyan's thoughts, Ye Qi asked, "Boss, is there really nothing about Miss?"
Du Hengyan shook his head reassuringly. "That little one is quite stubborn. I've already instructed Ye Jue to secretly protect her; you don't need to worry."
Hearing this from his boss eased Ye Qi's mind. "You should rest well; there are still people waiting for me to interrogate."
After saying this, Du Hengyan turned and walked out of the hospital room, gently closing the door behind him.
On a dark and windy night,
In the dark underground storage, the dim yellow light flickered, as if it could extinguish at any moment, adding an eerie atmosphere to the entire place. The air was thick with humidity, and the mottled stains on the walls seemed to whisper untold secrets. In one corner, a pile of old debris lay scattered, with cobwebs barely visible in the dim light.
Dozens of people were tightly bound together, their bodies trembling slightly as fear permeated the air. Du Hengyan looked down from his elevated position at the tightly bound crowd before him, his gaze cold and sharp. The yellow light cast a harsh glow on him, outlining his stern features.
"Speak without reservation; leave nothing unsaid. That is the rule here," he declared, his voice echoing through the silent underground with an undeniable authority.
As his words fell, the hoods covering the heads of the bound individuals were removed. They opened their eyes wide in terror, catching sight of the handsome yet cold face of the man speaking, along with the rows of chilling torture devices behind him. The metallic sheen glimmered under the light, foreshadowing the pain that was to come.
Ding!
The sound of a text message notification broke through the tension, and Du Hengyan immediately set aside the gun he had been toying with. His expression softened dramatically, transforming into someone entirely different.
"Du Hengyan, I’m home. Everything went smoothly. How about you?"
Reading this message brought a slight smile to his lips. He raised his gaze to those who were now begging for mercy, terrified and on the verge of losing control. With deliberate calmness, he replied, "My dear, everything went smoothly for me too."
In that dark underground storage, he shone like a bright light amidst the surrounding horror, creating a stark contrast to the fear that enveloped everyone else.
