The atmosphere between the two people sitting on the genuine leather sofa was delicate.
Pei Si's gaze was firmly locked onto Chi Mu Jiu. He had never expected that this young lady from the Chi family possessed such profound insight, able to articulate her thoughts so clearly. In his original perception, Chi Mu Jiu was merely a clever woman, a sheltered and delicate girl who might respond with some wit but could never possess such deep thoughts.
However, at this moment, he had to reevaluate this woman. The greed that once filled Pei Si's blue eyes gradually dissipated like smoke, replaced by astonishment and admiration. He looked at Chi Mu Jiu as if he were gazing at a precious treasure he had unexpectedly discovered.
Miss Chi seemed to understand the situation quite well; since the conversation had reached this point, he no longer worried that she would go back on her word. Pei Si spoke with a steady and powerful tone.
He then gently placed a bank card on the coffee table, his movements elegant and composed. His long, fair fingers set down the card as if completing a solemn ritual.
Afterward, he slowly stood up and adjusted his clothes. "Then I won't disturb you any longer, Miss." His words were steady and forceful, like a heavy hammer striking stone.
Hearing this, Chi Mu Jiu secretly breathed a sigh of relief; her taut nerves finally began to ease. She also stood up and walked towards the door behind Pei Si.
"I will come to pick you up at eight o'clock tomorrow morning."
"Alright, goodbye, Mr. Pei."
However, just as Pei Si heard this, he paused slightly in his steps and turned back to look at Chi Mu Jiu standing in the doorway with a smile. "Miss Chi, I have one more question to ask."
Chi Mu Jiu's heart suddenly raced; fearing he might change his mind, she subtly placed her hand on the doorknob, ready to close the door at any moment.
"What is it?" she asked cautiously.
"Who do you think is better looking, me or your boyfriend?"
Pei Si's question caught Chi Mu Jiu off guard. She paused for a moment before her expression turned indifferent.
Pei Si's heated gaze seemed to be glued to Chi Mu Jiu's face, never wavering. He stared at her intently, his blue eyes resembling a deep lake, shimmering with a mysterious light.
As the evening breeze swept by, it gently caressed his face, causing a few strands of hair to flutter and fall across his forehead. One couldn't deny that Pei Si was an incredibly handsome and charming man. His mixed heritage endowed him with striking features and a unique aura.
Had she not encountered Du Heng Yan before, such a man might have barely caught Chi Mu Jiu's attention. After all, mixed-race men often possess a distinctive allure; their looks are unique and captivating, blending the advantages of different ethnicities and exuding an exotic charm that compels one to take a second glance.
However, when the image of Du Heng Yan surfaced in her mind, there was no room left for anyone else in her heart. Who was Du Heng Yan? He was the man who had captured her heart at first sight, tall and lean with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, exuding an irresistible charisma that no one could compare to.
In comparison to Du Heng Yan, Pei Si simply had no qualities that could stand alongside him. If one were to insist there was any similarity, it might only be that Pei Si had a hint of mixed blood in his veins.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Pei," she said coolly, lifting her chin slightly, her expression distant and indifferent. "In our country, asking a married woman such questions is likely to be misconstrued as an attempt to seduce."
At her words, Pei Si's expression flickered with embarrassment. A faint blush appeared on his fair face, making him seem somewhat flustered.
"Thank you for the reminder, Miss Chi. I will be more mindful," he replied quickly. Then, as if eager to escape the awkward situation, he strode away without looking back.
Chi Mu Jiu stood quietly at the door, watching as Pei Si got into a black sedan parked not far from her home.
