Du Hengyan advanced towards Pei Jin. With each step he took, the pressure and hostility emanating from him intensified.
Despite being a prominent figure leading the underground forces, known for his imposing presence and the respect he commanded, Pei Jin found himself stripped of his usual bravado in that moment. His heart raced as if it might leap from his throat, and his palms were slick with sweat.
Before Pei Jin could muster a response, Du Hengyan's voice cut through the tension, low and icy. "Not long ago, a shipment of arms I had was secretly robbed. This must have something to do with you, doesn’t it?"
His tone suggested he was discussing an unrelated matter, yet the underlying anger and threat were impossible to ignore. "Tell me, how should we settle this account?"
From his elevated position, Du Hengyan looked down at Pei Jin, his gaze heavy with pressure. He emphasized the last few words, gripping his gun tightly as it pointed coldly at Pei Jin. The dark muzzle resembled an endless abyss, ready to swallow him whole at any moment.
In that instant, Pei Jin felt his heart tremble violently, as if gripped by an invisible hand. He had never anticipated that his plan to covertly seize such a valuable shipment would unravel so quickly; after all, one cannot hide fire with paper.
As Du Hengyan raised the gun to aim at his forehead, Pei Jin's face turned pale as paper, and his lips trembled uncontrollably. He stammered in an attempt to explain, "Boss Du, there must be some misunderstanding here..."
But before he could finish, Du Hengyan pulled the trigger without hesitation. The crisp click echoed as the bullet was chambered and ready to fire.
Liu Jiu's voice trembled slightly as she witnessed this side of Du Hengyan. The aura of menace surrounding him seemed capable of corroding the very space around them, instilling fear in her heart.
Hearing her fearful call, Du Hengyan unexpectedly tossed the firearm to a subordinate without a second thought and turned on his heel, striding towards her with purpose.
"Did I scare you too much?" His tone appeared casual, yet there was a subtle emotion beneath the surface.
At that moment, Pei Jin was drenched in cold sweat. The instant Du Hengyan turned away from him, a wave of relief washed over him like a lifeline from despair.
He had truly brushed against the gates of hell just moments ago.
Instinctively, Du Chengyan reached out his hand, wanting to comfort the equally startled Chi Mujiu. However, Chi Mujiu gently shifted her body, slightly avoiding his touch.
Du Chengyan's hand, which had been suspended in mid-air, suddenly froze. His gaze darkened and deepened in an instant.

The elevator doors opened.
With a cold expression, he carried Chi Mujiu into the elevator, tightening his grip around her waist.
