"Are you all so busy that this pathetic proposal is all you could come up with to appease me?"
Du Hengyan's voice, filled with authority and chilling indifference, thundered through the spacious and silent conference room like a clap of thunder. His sharp, eagle-like gaze slowly swept across everyone present. As he passed by, the attendees lowered their heads like startled birds, afraid that even a brief glance would bring about their doom. No one dared to speak up.
Even Chi Mu Jiu was no exception. At that moment, she was propped up on the table with one hand, her head bobbing slightly, clearly caught in a half-dreamy state. This long and tedious meeting felt like torture to her. The content was unbearably dull; for someone like her, who had little interest in the intricate details of workplace matters, just a few sentences were enough to make her feel exhausted.
(It was like falling asleep during an economics class at school.)
Before I arrived, some people had patted their chests and assured me that the proposal would definitely satisfy me. Why is it now that no one dares to lift their heads?
Du Hengyan's expression grew darker. None of the proposals presented had met his standards. The acting president lowered his head even further, wishing he could shrink under the table. It wasn't that their proposals were inadequate; it was simply that Du Hengyan's expectations were unreasonably high.
"I'll give you three more months. If there are technical difficulties, then overcome them! Don't try to save money by presenting these worthless designs!" Du Hengyan reprimanded, his voice echoing in the conference room with undeniable authority.
Everyone's heads almost simultaneously turned to look at him, their eyes filled with shock. (If we were to follow Du Hengyan's usual attitude, this script is wrong and the lines are off!)
"Yes! President!"
Du Hengyan merely waved his hand, signaling everyone to leave. The group felt as if they had been granted a reprieve and quickly stood up; within a minute, the conference room was left with only Chi Mu Jiu and Du Hengyan.
Chi Mu Jiu was still dozing off, completely oblivious to the tense atmosphere that had just filled the room. Du Hengyan looked at her with a gaze full of affection and gently ruffled her hair.
Chi Mu Jiu rubbed her eyes and yawned. After regaining her senses and realizing that it was just her and Du Hengyan left in the conference room, she finally asked:
"Is the meeting over?"
Seeing how tired you are, I let them leave early. Haven't you slept enough? Am I really that boring to listen to?"
"Oh, it is quite boring," Chi Mu Jiu mumbled. "Madam promised me a party, and there's still some time on the way to continue sleeping."
Du Heng was annoyed at her drowsiness and wanted to reach out to support her.
But Chi Mu Jiu quickly shook her head. "The party is fine, but I have one request: I can walk on my own. Can you please not carry me?"
Thinking back to her previous experiences, Chi Mu Jiu was genuinely afraid. She was embarrassed—terribly embarrassed. It was one thing to lose face in front of his friends, but if she embarrassed herself at the headquarters of his group, that would truly be social death.
Du Heng looked at her nervous expression and couldn't help but chuckle. "Alright, I'll listen to you this time."
Actually, he hadn't planned on carrying her last time either; it was just that she had insisted on it herself.
"Du Heng!" Chi Mu Jiu exclaimed, gritting her teeth.
As they left the building, Chi Mu Jiu walked ahead, ignoring Du Heng's gentle coaxing from behind.
In less than five minutes, news spread throughout the headquarters: Boss Du is a devoted husband.
(What could Du Heng do? If he caused trouble, he had to be the one to smooth things over.)
Madam, please don't be angry.
