For three consecutive days, Chi Mu Jiu was tormented by a high fever, leaving her utterly weak. This made Du Heng Yan anxious and restless, as he couldn't afford to take a break for fear that she might suffer from other complications. A cool sensation washed over his forehead, providing some comfort.
At this moment, the beauty lying in bed slowly opened her eyes, her gaze landing on Du Heng Yan, who was sitting on the sofa, focused intently on his computer. From this particular angle, his already stern face appeared even more resolute. The sharp lines of his features were chiseled like they had been carved from stone, with a high nose that stood tall like a mountain peak, exuding an unshakeable authority.
When he was serious, Du Heng Yan resembled an indestructible fortress. Even though he looked somewhat fatigued, it did nothing to diminish his handsomeness. Chi Mu Jiu cleared her throat softly, attempting to assess her condition. It felt slightly easier than the last time she had awakened; the unbearable discomfort had lessened.
"Du Heng Yan..." she called out in a barely audible voice.
Hearing her call his name, Du Heng Yan's fingers froze over the keyboard. Without hesitation, he abandoned his work and quickly made his way to her side. "You're awake?! How do you feel now? Is your head still spinning? Is there anywhere else that's uncomfortable?"
His face was filled with concern as he spoke, his tone laced with urgency and worry. "Are you hungry? Is there anything you want to eat? I've already instructed someone to prepare your favorites."
He bombarded her with questions in rapid succession, as if afraid to overlook any detail that could affect her recovery. Faced with his barrage of inquiries, Chi Mu Jiu didn't know where to begin answering.
She revealed a faint smile, her tone playful.
"First, a hug."
As soon as the words left her lips, Du Heng bent down without hesitation, pressing his broad chest against her.
Chi Mu Jiu stretched out her arms, gently wrapping them around his solid back, savoring this rare moment of tranquility and warmth.
The familiar and unique scent of dragon sandalwood lingered at her nose.
This fragrance was like a mysterious messenger, evoking endless memories and emotions.
"You've worked hard, Boss Du."
Her voice was soft, carrying a hint of concern and gratitude.
"Hmm?"
His tone rose slightly, revealing a sense of confusion or perhaps surprise.
In an instant, a deep sense of guilt flashed across his eyes, as if he were bearing an immense pressure deep within.
"You still haven't answered my question. If you're feeling any discomfort at all, you must tell me. I'll arrange for a doctor to come check on you right away."
"It's already too much; I've made you worry."
Although Chi Mu Jiu still felt unwell, she thought it best to comfort this man who wore his guilt so openly.
"Really?"
"Yes, lying is for puppies."
(Woof woof.)
"I had someone bring food over; you haven't eaten anything for days. It’s not easy to get you to gain a few pounds only to lose them again."
His voice was slightly hoarse, and Chi Mu Jiu could hear it clearly.
