"How many of you are here now?"
"Yeah, these past couple of days, every time we hit the gambling area, the Madam drags me off to play cards."
"I didn't lose my entire fortune, but let me tell you, her card skills are no joke!"
"Come on, come on! The last time I saw her play cards against Old Pei, I knew she was something else!"
"The Madam's card skills are truly extraordinary; it's as if she can predict what cards we have in our hands. She wins nine out of ten times."
"But there was still that one hand she lost, right?"
As soon as those words were spoken, everyone who had been watching turned to the speaker and chimed in unison, "That hand was just the Madam messing with you for fun!"
"Come on, come on! Keep it going!"
The lively cheers echoed in the spacious gambling room.
A luxurious gambling table was surrounded by a crowd, the atmosphere tense yet vibrant. On one side sat Chi Mu Jiu, calm and composed, exuding an extraordinary presence, though her delicate face showed signs of weariness. On the other side were Du Heng Yan and his group of subordinates, each wearing a serious expression.
Indeed, a gambling match was about to begin.
"Listen to me! Let the Madam place her bet first!" someone suggested.
Others quickly agreed, though deep down they felt their chances were slim.
"It looks like we're about to lose again," someone muttered quietly. The group exchanged helpless glances but found themselves drawn in by the thrill of the game.
Ever since Du Heng Yan and Chi Mu Jiu decided to attend the underground gambling event, Chi Mu Jiu had her own little plan brewing. Over the past couple of days, while Du Heng Yan was busy with other matters, she had sneakily slipped out to the gambling area to play cards with this group of brothers.
She was not there to win money; she simply wanted to familiarize herself with the rules of the game. Late Mugu knew that although she had the ability to see through cards, the unpredictability of life made her cautious. It was not the fear of losing a thousand that worried her, but the fear of an unexpected turn of events. She did not want to become a burden to Du Hengyan.
Thus, she needed to do some homework in advance, just in case. As for why she sneaked out, it was simple: her body had not fully recovered yet. Du Hengyan, being a devoted husband, would certainly disapprove if he found out she had ventured out while still unwell. He might even rush over to carry her back.
While learning the rules of the casino, she carefully observed each round of cards played, paying close attention to everyone’s expressions and movements. Whenever she encountered a rule she didn’t understand, she would humbly ask her fellow players for clarification after a round ended. They were more than willing to explain, as their lady was exceptionally intelligent and quick to grasp concepts.
She memorized the complex rules and then practiced and validated them in subsequent games. Sometimes, to better understand a particular rule, she would ponder over several rounds repeatedly. Fortunately, she was not slow-witted; despite the difficulty of some rules, after a few rounds, she had managed to grasp quite a bit. Over these past two days, she had learned dozens of rules from the casino.
However, this was also the first time Late Mugu felt that winning at cards was an exceedingly challenging endeavor.
“Lady, it’s time to reveal your cards!”
As the group across the table erupted in cheers, the atmosphere around the gambling table ignited instantly. Late Mugu remained calm and leisurely laid her cards on the table.
A Straight Flush!
The crowd gasped in amazement.
Another Straight Flush!
“Oh no! I knew I would lose! Look at that! Lady’s card skills are simply meant for this profession!”
The speaker realized halfway through that he had misspoken. A few quick-witted individuals beside him hurriedly covered his mouth to prevent him from continuing.
“Lady, what he means is that you and the boss are a perfect match! Your card skills are divine; having you by his side is like adding wings to a tiger!” one person quickly explained.
“Yes, yes! Like adding wings to a tiger! Flying together as one!”
Some people nearby echoed in agreement. Chi Mu Jiu observed the anxious and hurried expressions of the crowd, but didn’t feel particularly offended.
