The eyes of the crowd were focused on the stage. He remained indifferent, while she exuded confidence. Was this the beauty by Boss Du's side? Among the crowd, someone let out a gasp of surprise.
"Wow, she really has some guts! To come here alone for such a gamble," another voice chimed in.
"Shut your mouths! If you anger Boss Du, you won't have it easy," someone warned in a hushed tone.
As Chi Mu Jiu took her seat, she could hear the whispers surrounding her, all centered around her presence. However, she seemed oblivious to it, sitting calmly with an air of composure.
At that moment, a familiar voice broke through the murmurs. "Well, well, we meet again, little beauty."
Chi Mu Jiu looked up to see it was Corey. "Corey, it's a pleasure," she replied, though a hint of displeasure flickered within her. She knew it wasn't the right time to show it.
"So today you're here to take Boss Du's place in this gamble?" Corey asked as he gestured for his companion, Maupassant, to pull out a chair for him. Without hesitation, he sat down across from Chi Mu Jiu, his expression dark and seemingly provocative.
It appeared that this guy was intentionally seeking trouble. Chi Mu Jiu thought to herself but remained unfazed. Behind her mask, her beautiful eyes remained as calm as still water, showing no signs of disturbance.
"Just yesterday I personally invited Boss Du to join me for a game, and I didn't expect we'd be sitting at the same gambling table so soon," Corey said, crossing his legs and adopting a condescending posture.
Faced with Corey’s theatrical performance, Chi Mu Jiu chose to remain silent, merely offering a faint smile.
However, the gamblers at the other tables became lively upon noticing that Du Heng Yan was absent from the game today, and they began to whisper among themselves. One of the players near Corey boldly teased, "Little beauty, if you end up losing this round, don’t go crying like a baby to find Boss Du! Haha!"
Upon hearing this, Chi Mu Jiu slowly turned her gaze towards the speaker. The man was unremarkable in appearance, lacking any striking features, but his well-built muscles and the numerous tattoos covering his arms were indeed somewhat unsettling.
At that moment, Du Heng Yan sat quietly below the stage, his eyes fixed on Chi Mu Jiu, carefully observing her every move. With so many people seated around them and the atmosphere buzzing with noise, he couldn't clearly hear the specific words being exchanged on stage. However, with years of experience and knowledge of underground gambling houses, he could guess the general context.
This customer certainly knows how to joke! Since Boss Du trusts me enough to take his place at the gambling table, it shows he doesn’t care about the outcome at all.
Chi Mu Jiu’s lips curled into a slight smile, yet her eyes sparkled with determination and confidence. She continued, "Boss Du is incredibly wealthy; money means nothing to him. Therefore, regardless of how this game ends, it won’t affect him in the slightest."
Pausing for effect, she shifted her gaze to the burly man across from her, whose face was marked by a thick layer of flesh and menacing muscles. At that moment, their eyes locked in a tense standoff, as if the air around them was thick with an oppressive atmosphere.
