Did the Nanlei family really manage to redeem Chi Qiyun as well?
Chi Mujiu immediately went to the balcony, her beautiful eyes lowered. In the hazy drizzle, she saw Chi Qiyun being dragged by several brothers, about to be thrown out of the courtyard.
She didn’t speak to stop them, and Chi Qiyun had noticed her too.
"Chi Mujiu! Tell them to put me down! I need to talk to you!" Chi Qiyun shouted at her.
The brothers turned to see if their lady was truly present.
"What is it? You can say it here," Chi Mujiu guessed the purpose of Chi Qiyun's visit.
She stood above, watching Chi Qiyun with interest.
Hearing their lady's words, the brothers loosened their grip.
Chi Qiyun rubbed her sore arms, looking displeased. "I came to deliver an invitation!"
She looked up, her usually enchanting fox-like eyes showing less hostility and a hint of submission.
However, she had guessed correctly.
Chi Mujiu merely responded with a faint "Oh," her expression and demeanor revealing her indifference.
"You! Chi Mujiu, what do you mean by that!?" Chi Qiyun was clearly unhappy with Chi Mujiu's attitude. Yet, unlike her usual brashness, she didn’t lash out; instead, her beautiful face visibly flushed with embarrassment.
Seeing her both shy and ashamed was quite a novelty for Chi Mujiu.
It made sense. The two had never gotten along since childhood. Now, Chi Qiyun was putting aside her so-called noble demeanor and strong sense of pride to deliver an invitation to her.
This was clearly a gesture of seeking peace.
If peace was refused or even met with rejection, anyone would feel both humiliated and angry, right?
"It doesn’t mean much. After all these years, I’ve realized that you, Chi Qiyun, are quite capable of bending and yielding."
Her delicate features were graced with a subtle smile, and her eyes were as tranquil as a serene lake.
Chi Qiyun simply stared blankly at the woman standing on the balcony, unable to utter another word.
"Chi Qiyun, all your previous indulgences and arrogance had someone to pay the price for you. You should be grateful to have a family member who protects you. You can turn a blind eye, but I will not accept it, nor will I forgive."
Chi Mujiu's words were firm and resonant. Before Chi Qiyun could respond further, she waved her hand and turned towards the bedroom. "Slowly, I won't see you out."
To say that her heart was untouched by emotion would be a lie. Everything happening at home was complicated; in truth, no one was entirely wrong, yet everyone was at fault in some way. She didn't want to expend energy on things that weren't worth it.
However, it was unexpected for Chi Qiyun to seek reconciliation. In Chi Mujiu's understanding, Chi Qiyun had always been loud and self-centered. Perhaps it was the recent turmoil in the Chi family and Lei Ji's deceitful attitude that made Chi Qiyun finally realize her own mistakes.
So why bother? It was self-inflicted suffering; she had brought this upon herself.
"Is everyone here?"
In the living room, Jin Su and a group of brothers were present.
"Yes, Madam."
"Tonight, I will be attending a banquet with Ye Jue. You all stay outside and keep watch. If anything happens, protect me, but do not let the brothers reveal their weapons. Understood?"
Chi Mujiu still felt a bit uneasy as she cautioned them.
"Understood, Madam. Some of the brothers have already gone ahead to scout the location."
Jin Su reported the situation.
Chi Mujiu nodded.
"This one looks nice, I'll take it," she said, pointing to the wine-red long dress that had just been unpacked.
The living room was cluttered with various-sized clothing boxes, and she hadn't had the chance to look through them yet, despite Du Heng's insistence on buying them. Now was the perfect opportunity to choose an outfit that suited her.
If all went well, everything would be settled tonight.
