The air after the rain was filled with a refreshing dampness, and the long-awaited sunlight filtered through the thin mist, warm and pleasant.
Shi Mu Jiu was sleeping soundly. Since dozing off in the car last night, she had not yet awakened. Du Cheng Yan gently called her name a few times, but she merely stirred lazily, seemingly reluctant to leave her sweet dreams.
"Madam, why are you so tired?" Du Cheng Yan furrowed his brows, revealing a hint of concern. He had seen her sleeping so peacefully last night that he couldn't bear to disturb her, thinking they could share a warm moment together this morning. However, it was now close to noon, and if he hadn't woken her up, she might have continued sleeping for a few more hours.
"Mmm," she mumbled in response, trying to drift back into slumber but suddenly remembered that she had something very important to do today. She struggled to wake herself up, but her body still felt heavy and weak. Watching her struggle to open her eyes made Du Cheng Yan smile; she looked so adorable.
As if suddenly recalling something even more delightful, he gently lifted her from the bed and strode toward the bathroom. "I've already prepared your clothes, my dear. Get up; today is a day of double happiness."
"Mmm, indeed, it is a special day." But what did "double happiness" mean? Did Du Cheng Yan think this way about the Shi family? She had never considered it before. Shi Mu Jiu pondered as she squinted against the light resting on his shoulder.
Du Cheng Yan rarely wore white shirts. At the entrance of the civil affairs bureau, there were quite a few couples waiting to receive their marriage certificates today. As Shi Mu Jiu held onto Du Cheng Yan while they queued in the hall, she could hear whispers of discussions and envious murmurs from all around them.
The process of obtaining the certificate was swift; even though they stood in a small line for a short while, it wasn't long before it was their turn.
The staff members laughed as they observed Chi Mu Jiu and Du Heng Yan, their eyes filled with astonishment and a hint of gossip.
When the sound of the camera shutter clicked in her ears, Chi Mu Jiu finally reacted.
"Congratulations to both of you on your marriage," one of the staff members said with a smile, handing the marriage certificate to Chi Mu Jiu.
The vibrant red background of the photo was striking. In the ID picture, Du Heng Yan looked handsome and captivating. Although he often appeared cold and stern to outsiders, in the photo, his lips curved into a slight smile, softening his overall demeanor.
"Du Heng Yan, congratulations on your marriage."
"Jiu Jiu, my wife, congratulations on our marriage. From now on, I will share all joys with you."
Sweet.
Incredibly sweet.
At that moment, all their experiences and encounters crystallized into pure happiness.
As they left the civil affairs bureau, Chi Mu Jiu could still feel the intense gazes of the staff members in the hall following her and Du Heng Yan.
Not far away, the brothers who had come along were secretly indulging in gossip.
"I told you! They are a perfect match! Look at our boss; he’s practically grinning from ear to ear."
"How can you describe our boss like that? You should say he’s smiling with a heart full of spring."
"Our lady is truly beautiful today; that little veil is just adorable."
"When is she not beautiful?"
"Today she’s the most beautiful!"
A group of people munched on snacks while watching the affectionate couple get into their car and drive away, their smiles stretching wide across their faces.
"Are you still grinning like an idiot? The boss is leaving; hurry up and follow him! To Old Deng's place!"
In a flurry, they rushed to get into their cars and chase after them.
Outside the Chi family gate, before the car had even come to a stop, the gates were already swung open by the servants.
