The invitation was never sent out.
Chi Qiyun hurriedly left the villa area, the raindrops falling from the sky seemed to echo the turmoil within her heart. From the very beginning, she knew that the chances of Chi Muji accepting her peace offering were slim, yet she still came. The unwillingness within her grew like wild vines, and her desire for reconciliation was genuine.
Raindrops splattered against her, and her steps unconsciously quickened, as if that would help shake off the frustration in her heart. Outside the area, the taxi that had brought her here waited quietly.
She opened the car door and got in, unhesitatingly tossing the carefully prepared invitation out of the window.
The bar.
Her voice carried a hint of fatigue and languor. Chi Qiyun sat in the back seat, picking up a towel from the car to dry her rain-soaked hair.
The driver responded loudly while secretly glancing at her through the rearview mirror. Chi Qiyun felt his gaze; she knew that her daytime visit to a bar, combined with her alluring appearance, likely led him to assume she was one of the dancers working there. But at that moment, exhaustion overwhelmed her, leaving no energy to explain anything.
The taxi slowly started moving, soon leaving the quiet suburb behind. The discarded invitation lay alone on the ground, drenched by rain, as large droplets continued to fall, gradually blurring the ink on it, as if mourning for this unfinished mission.
The rainy city appeared hazy; Chi Qiyun felt that this autumn was particularly cold.
"Miss, we’ve arrived."
The driver's voice pulled her back to reality. Without waiting for him to make a move, Chi Qiyun paid and quickly stepped into the bar against the wind and rain. Perhaps due to the annoying weather, there were quite a few people drinking inside even during the day.
As she entered the bar, dim lights spread out around her; colorful spotlights danced like lively spirits across the walls and ceiling, occasionally sweeping over the crowd. The interplay of light and shadow created a patchwork effect, resembling a flowing abstract painting.
Chi Qiyun took a seat at the bar.
“One ‘Not Going Home Tonight,’ please,” she ordered.
The bartender's shaker made a clattering sound as he moved it, ice cubes colliding with each other and producing a crisp tinkling noise. The bartender paused slightly, studying Chi Qiyun with curiosity and more than a hint of admiration in his eyes.
"Miss, are you sure you want a drink called 'Not Going Home Tonight'? That's a strong one."
A hint of impatience flickered in Chi Qiyun's fox-like eyes. "That's exactly what I want."
Seeing her displeasure, the bartender decided not to say more. He thought to himself that someone who comes to a bar in broad daylight to drown their sorrows must be dealing with something troublesome.
Before long, a drink resembling champagne was placed in front of Chi Qiyun. "Miss, your drink is ready."
Chi Qiyun didn't respond; instead, she tilted her head back and drained the contents of the triangular glass in an instant.
The bartender's eyes widened in shock. Before he could say anything, he heard Chi Qiyun complain, "Do you even know how to mix drinks? This is too weak."
Wanting to be sympathetic but facing her disdain, he could only smile and prepare another drink.
Chi Qiyun took the freshly mixed drink and again tilted her head back, finishing it in one go. This drink was much stronger than the last, and the intense burn of the alcohol finally made her furrow her brows slightly.
She craved this bitter, spicy sensation that was hard to swallow, mirroring her own difficult situation at that moment. The alcohol content of this drink reached an impressive degree, and seeing Chi Qiyun down two glasses without blinking made the bartender stare in astonishment.
