Watching the two people outside the car engage in a fierce struggle seemed to grow increasingly difficult.
Chimu Jiu cautiously crawled from the back seat to the driver's position. Fortunately, her small frame allowed her to slip through the gap between the seats with ease, and she settled into the driver's seat. Driving was out of the question; she was pregnant and had terrible driving skills, but scaring off these people was still within her capabilities.
After pressing down on the horn, a series of sharp, urgent honks erupted. Chimu Jiu held down the horn, triggering the alarm systems of the surrounding vehicles, which caused an entire convoy to join in with their honking. Those nearby were startled by the sudden cacophony.
The gunshots from earlier must have alerted everyone in the vicinity, and this blaring noise was bound to draw even more attention. The scarred-faced man, realizing that things had escalated, attempted to retreat. However, at that moment, a large group of armed individuals surged out from the slowly opening gates of the venue.
At the center of this chaos was a man filled with rage, charging straight toward them.
Chimu Jiu relaxed her grip only when she spotted Du Hengyan. The honking abruptly ceased, leaving an echo of noise in her ears. She let out a long sigh of relief; this business was truly not easy. It was her first outing with Du Hengyan, and they had already encountered such trouble.
As Du Hengyan approached the front of the car, she finally opened the door.
"Du Hengyan," she called softly.
"Baby, were you scared?" he asked with concern, his gaze carefully scanning her for any injuries.
Fortunately, she was fine; only her hair was a bit disheveled.
"I was scared," she admitted, burying her head in Du Hengyan's embrace like a soft little creature seeking comfort.
With ease, Du Hengyan lifted her into his arms.
"Boss, we've got him under control," one of the subordinates said, waving a hand at Du Hengyan.
"Madam, I hope you weren't scared. Are you alright?" Chi Mu Jiu immediately shook her head. In truth, she had been startled for a moment earlier, but thankfully, she hadn't gotten out of the car.
The scarred man was pinned down, looking quite defiant. Du Hengyan held the beautiful woman gently in his arms, yet the malice in his eyes was unmistakable.
Seeing this, the scarred man immediately wilted. Even though he had never seen this man before, he had heard of his infamous reputation—the King of the Underworld, Boss Du.
"Y-you are... Boss Du!?"
He truly didn't know whether to call it good luck or bad luck. "You dare to touch my people?!"
They had stirred up trouble right at the heart of it all. And they had even targeted this man's beloved wife. How delightful.
The boss of the nearby gambling den was struggling to keep his footing as he watched.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Boss Du! My brothers and I are new here and didn't know it was you. We deserve to die!" The scarred man banged his head against the ground repeatedly.
The others quickly followed suit, begging for mercy and crying out in a cacophony of fear.
Suddenly, as if recalling something important, the scarred man paused for a moment before continuing to bow his head. "Boss Du! I-I am a subordinate of Maupassant! A subordinate of Maupassant! The Black Gambling House! You’ve met him before!"
"Boss Du, please spare us! Today my brothers were too reckless; if we had known it was you, we wouldn't have dared to act out even if we had a thousand or ten thousand lives!"
Maupassant? That name sounds familiar.
The underground gambling den? Wasn't the entrance already trampled by Du Hang?
