The small bag of snacks she was holding was clearly seen by Du Hangyan.
"I say this is a gift for our child, do you believe me?"
Chi Mu Jiu stammered, unsure of what she was even saying.
(With two little ones in her belly, she really was a good mother. While other children honored their parents, our family seemed to be doing the opposite.)
"Hmm?"
Du Hangyan stood at the door, not stepping forward.
But Chi Mu Jiu understood his meaning well enough.
She lowered her head and slowly approached, handing the snack bag to him. "Here, it's all for you! I didn't steal any!"
"Are there more hidden elsewhere?"
With that single question from Du Hangyan, Chi Mu Jiu nearly lost her balance.
No way! Was her secret stash of snacks going to be completely wiped out today?!
"Darling wife, honesty brings leniency, resistance brings severity. Maybe you can still save some of your territory."
Du Hangyan spoke, knowing that his precious wife had been hiding snacks at home even before her pregnancy.
People are always contrary; the more you tell her not to do something, the more she wants to do it.
Du Hangyan truly turned a blind eye to it; life needed some fun to be interesting.
His idea of fun was teasing his beloved wife daily.
Chi Mu Jiu wanted to act cute, but Du Hangyan simply scooped her up into his arms.
No time for cuteness today; we need to handle things at home.
In the living room, Chi Mu Jiu pointed at the porcelain on the TV cabinet and said, "Over there."
Du Hangyan raised his hand and effortlessly retrieved the cotton candy from the porcelain container.
"To the kitchen."
He carried the beauty over to the kitchen pantry, where a pile of seasonings was mixed with two bags of snacks that were similar in color. Du Hengyan felt quite surprised; he entered and exited the kitchen every day, yet his precious wife had managed to hide snacks here.
Raising an eyebrow, he looked at her with a feigned seriousness. Isn’t it often said that the most dangerous place is also the safest?
She mumbled softly under her breath.
In the flowerbed outside, she continued speaking.
Du Hengyan was puzzled; how could this little beauty have hidden something outside the courtyard as well? He began to suspect that Chi Mu Jiu spent her days thinking about where to stash her little snacks without him finding out. Hiding just a little bit in every place—wasn’t that just a way to protect herself in case he ever discovered everything and confiscated all her treats?
Under the exquisite flower rack in the flowerbed, a small empty plot was stuffed full of spicy strips and other snacks. Du Hengyan couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Sweetheart, so this is your secret stash base! What now? I’ve confiscated all your spicy strips!”
Chi Mu Jiu didn’t respond, instead resting her head on his shoulder in dejection.
She felt sadder than ever; after hiding them for so long, she thought there was no way Du Hengyan would ever find this place. Yet she never imagined that one day these snacks would betray her.
“Did you sneak some?” he asked with a slight frown.
“No! Absolutely not! I was just afraid you’d smell them! Last time I secretly went to a gambling game for a bit, you found out when I came back!”
(That time she had snuck off to practice her card skills and familiarize herself with the rules, only to be caught upon returning.)
“You’re not upset that I confiscated your little snacks?”
He continued to ask,
"Are you not sad? It's all for me."
She planted a kiss on his cheek.
Du Heng let out a light laugh, and Zhi Mu Jiu followed suit.
However, the two of them were now sharing five hearts between them.
(There are sacrifices at the secret base, and a big deal is imminent.)
