The moment the gambling cruise ship docked, a message came through.
"Boss, someone is here to pick up Ze Jin."
On the top floor of the gambling hall, as the elevator doors opened, a messenger hurried to report to Du Chengyan.
"That was quick news," Du Chengyan remarked, his expression calm and unreadable. It was Ye Qi who spoke up first.
"Who is it?"
"It seems to be a group of government officials from a certain country. They've even brought police cars."
"What kind of person is this Ze Jin?" Ye Qi asked, curiosity piqued.
"I heard his family has high-ranking officials. He broke some rules in the underworld and ended up being sold to the gambling ring."
"Looks like this kid has some background after all. No wonder he was so bold on the cruise; turns out he's a nobleman's son," Ye Qi teased lightly upon hearing the report.
"Boss, are we letting him go?" he added with a smirk.
Du Chengyan remained seated in his soft chair, his demeanor still indifferent. He had just sent off his wife and was in no mood for any disturbances. If it weren't for a pile of troublesome matters, he would have been on his way back home with his beloved wife. Now, here came this Ze Jin.
"Let him go? How can they come here empty-handed to pick someone up? Even if they're high-ranking officials, that won't do."
Outside the gambling area, several police cars were lined up, with a government vehicle parked in the center.
"Why hasn't your boss come yet?" one of the officers asked anxiously as he looked toward the entrance of the gambling area. They had been waiting for a minute without seeing anyone emerge.
Meanwhile, their superiors had already made over a dozen phone calls.
The brothers inside didn't respond; they simply hastened their movements as they wiped their guns.
The officers weren't naive; they understood what this meant. Coming to demand someone meant they were in need of something from the other party.
The officer who had been speaking seemed to realize he had misspoken and quietly stepped aside.
Before long, the large door slowly opened.
It was not Du Heng who stepped forward, but Ye Qi.
After surveying the surroundings, Ye Qi fixed his gaze on the special vehicle. "Our boss said we can negotiate for a person, but it all depends on your attitudes," he stated.
As soon as he finished speaking, the window of the special vehicle began to lower, and the nearby officer immediately stepped forward to open the door.
A middle-aged man in a suit emerged from the car.
Ye Qi recognized him; he was a high-ranking official with considerable influence in the area. It turned out that Ze Jin was his son.
"As long as Boss Du is willing to release him, we can discuss any conditions," Ye Qi continued. "We are only interested in sincerity."
Ye Qi was not keen on listening to this man ramble on; he understood the ways of bureaucracy better than anyone else.
"One hundred million."
As soon as the high-ranking official spoke, the surrounding officers widened their eyes in disbelief at their superior's words.
To start with such a sum, it was clear that foreign officials were indeed operating in deep waters.
"With money, people can naturally be released."
After saying this, Ye Qi turned to leave.
"Wait, ten billion!"
The official assumed Ye Qi thought the initial amount was too low and gritted his teeth to state an even more staggering figure that left the nearby officers speechless.
"I told you, with money, people can be released."
Within half an hour, two armored trucks arrived outside the gambling area.
Seeing this, Ye Qi finally led the high-ranking official into the gambling zone. After all, to redeem a person, they still needed their boss's approval.
Money is merely a ticket to entry.
In the underground interrogation room of the gambling area, Ze Jin felt as if he were sitting on pins and needles, surrounded by an array of torture devices. Across from him, Du Heng lounged comfortably with his legs crossed, a cloud of smoke billowing from the cigarette in his hand.
(Thinking about his wife, he took a drag on the cigarette to ease the pressure, longing for her every moment.)
"Boss, they're here," one of the brothers announced from outside before retreating again.
