Ye Qi's eyes scanned the young major standing in front of him, assessing him with a calm demeanor. The young man certainly had guts.
"Well then, put in some effort and strive for more victories. I will reward you," Ye Qi said, effortlessly dismantling the other’s defenses.
The words of the colonel stirred the soldiers' fighting spirit. Yi Ling smiled, a hint of disdain playing on his lips. Though he didn’t say it outright, those in the know understood his implication: Ye Qi held the rank of colonel, and there were only two ranks separating them; perhaps one day, they would stand on equal footing.
"Hmph."
Ye Qi chuckled at Yi Ling's words, finding them amusing. Having ambition and passion was commendable, but excessive confidence could lead to a misjudgment of one’s own abilities.
"Well then, let’s see how you perform."
He attempted to sidestep Yi Ling, but just as he was about to take a step, a punch came flying directly at him. Ye Qi easily dodged it and swiftly grabbed Yi Ling's hand, even managing to pluck a star insignia from his chest in the process.
Everyone present was left dumbfounded. The speed at which he moved was beyond anything they could have practiced on the training ground.
By the time Yi Ling realized what had happened, he noticed that one of his insignias was missing.
Le Xinyuan merely observed the scene without intervening; according to their earlier agreement, Yi Ling's actions did not violate any rules. However, attacking a superior who held two ranks above him was indeed quite reckless. Thus, Ye Qi's act of taking an insignia was justified since Yi Ling had thrown a punch without any warning.
If one were to put it bluntly, it could be seen as an ambush.
"Soldiers still need practice."
After releasing Yi Ling, Ye Qi handed him back the insignia he had taken. In that brief exchange, Yi Ling had been thoroughly defeated. He had no choice but to accept it with humility as he took back his insignia, fully aware that in that fleeting moment of confrontation, Ye Qi had completely outclassed him.
He was fortunate that the military uniform he wore today spared him from being thrown down with a shoulder throw.
Ye Qi lightly brushed off nonexistent dust from his clothes and then stepped past Yi Ling to approach Le Xin Yan.
"I heard there’s a social gathering tonight, so I came," he said with a smile, the determination in his eyes completely vanished.
The soldiers around them looked on with expressions that suggested they had witnessed a romantic reunion.
Having arrived in such a hurry, he presented this as a gift to celebrate the evening.
He took out a red box from his military coat, causing Le Xin Yan's heart to race uncontrollably.
It wasn’t a ring; it was the special honor medal he had earned during his recent mission.
For a soldier, such a medal held more significance than anything else.
The one Ye Qi offered her was even more meaningful.
The highest honor medal! This is incredible!
Is this really so romantic?
Le Xin Yan accepted his gift, realizing it was more than just a token; it was as if Ye Qi had given her the entirety of his promotion's glory.
From Colonel to Major General, this medal was more than enough. Yet, instead of using it to elevate his rank, he chose to bestow this honor upon her.
"Do you like it?" he asked.
"Yes," she replied softly.
She had traded her rest days for this moment, while he had gifted her his highest honor.
A unique romance shared between two soldiers, a silent understanding between Ye Qi and her.
