"Young Master, everything for the wedding has been prepared. Would you like to take a look and see if there’s anything that needs adjustment?"
The assistant stood respectfully in front of Su Siyu, holding a thick stack of wedding preparation documents and an invitation list, his eyes revealing a hint of anticipation.
"No need. Just arrange it as Yan Yu said."
Su Siyu leaned lazily against the sofa, his gaze somewhat vacant, seemingly lacking enthusiasm for the upcoming wedding. He didn’t even lift his head, merely waving his hand to signal the assistant to leave.
His indifferent attitude suggested that this grand wedding had little to do with him; it was merely a task he had to complete.
The assistant’s lips moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something more, but upon seeing Su Siyu’s cold demeanor, he ultimately swallowed his words.
With a helpless sigh, he silently retreated with the documents in hand.
Everyone in the Su family understood without needing to say it aloud: this gentle and refined young master had not married the woman he truly desired.
It was merely a business alliance; all the splendor and excitement were just facades, hiding the entanglements of family interests beneath.
The wedding proceeded as scheduled, complete with flowers, ribbons, extravagant gowns, and dazzling lights. Yet for Su Siyu, the person he truly wished to invite would not be present at her rightful seat; that spot was destined to remain empty.
After the wedding, the business dealings between the Su and Yan families gradually expanded as expected. Su Siyu and Yan Yu played their roles as a harmonious and elegant couple in front of their elders, just as stipulated in their signed agreement.
To outsiders, they appeared perfectly matched—a couple envied by many—but only they knew that it was all just an act.
"Why are you so late returning?"
As usual, Su Siyu sat on the living room sofa, quietly waiting for Yan Yu to come home.
In the year since their marriage, he had almost always waited for her like this. He had grown accustomed to this role, diligently playing the part of a cultured husband as if it had become a part of his life.
When Yan Yu opened the door, there was another man standing outside.
Su Siyu recognized him at once—it was Cai Cheng from the Yan family's most cooperative project team.
"Mr. Cai, thank you very much for bringing me home. I hope we have a pleasant collaboration."
Yan Yu smiled gently at the man outside; her smile was as charming as ever, but to Su Siyu's eyes, it felt somewhat glaring.
At that moment, Su Siyu stepped forward to stand before her, his gaze fixed intently on the bag in Cai Cheng's hand that belonged to Yan Yu, his expression growing dark and inscrutable.
"Mr. Cai, could you please accompany my wife inside for some tea?"
Unsure whether it was a sense of discomfort or simply his own good upbringing, Su Siyu spoke politely.
As he spoke, he casually took the white bag belonging to Yan Yu from Cai Cheng's hands. This action surprised Yan Yu; it was the first time she had seen Su Siyu be so proactive.
Having consumed quite a bit of alcohol at the dinner earlier, Yan Yu felt a strong wave of dizziness wash over her, making it difficult for her to stand steadily. She fought against the intoxication, trying hard to stay alert.
"Ah, that's not possible. President Yan has had too much to drink and can't drive, so I’ll just give her a ride," Cai Cheng said, pausing before adding with a hint of provocation, "Since President Su is waiting for his wife so late, why not take President Yan home from the dinner?"
Su Siyu was momentarily taken aback by this remark; he swallowed hard but didn't know how to respond.
"I overindulged, President Cai. I promised not to drink, but the collaboration with you has been quite enjoyable," he finally managed to say.
Yan Yu leaned against the door frame, forcing a smile despite the intense dizziness. She knew she had to diffuse this awkward situation and prevent Su Siyu from feeling too uncomfortable.
A wave of inexplicable sympathy surged within Su Siyu as he looked at Yan Yu's pale face and her effort to maintain a smile. He suddenly realized that this woman, who had always played the role of his wife, had her own struggles.
"Oh, if that's the case, I won't disturb you any longer. Goodbye to both of you," Cai Cheng said, nodding. A flicker of disappointment crossed his eyes as he gave Su Siyu a lingering glance filled with discontent before turning to leave.
"Go on in," Su Siyu said softly.
