Because Su Siyu and she had never shared a bed, except for last night when his arm had brushed against her.
Breakfast was prepared alongside the hangover soup. As Su Siyu hesitated at the door, wondering whether to knock, Yan Yu happened to open it.
Dressed in casual homewear, the soft fabric clung to her delicate skin. Perhaps due to the effects of the alcohol, her complexion wasn't great, which only made her look even more pitifully beautiful. Without any makeup to enhance her features, she appeared refreshingly natural, like a lotus emerging from the water.
Her eyes sparkled with life, as if hiding the vastness of stars and oceans within them. Her small nose turned up slightly, and her lips resembled tender petals, tinged with a faint pink hue. In that moment, Su Siyu couldn't help but recall a line:
"A graceful lady, accompanied by music and drums;
A graceful lady, sought in dreams and wakefulness."
(Yan Yu: "Wait a minute! Don't get all poetic on me; have you forgotten how I pinned you against the wall last time?")
Seeing Yan Yu like this, Su Siyu immediately turned his head away, unable to meet her gaze.
"Let’s eat breakfast," he stammered, his voice tinged with nervousness.
"Oh," Yan Yu replied, sensing the subtle awkwardness and tension in the air.
At the dining table, Su Siyu kept his head down throughout the meal, too shy to look up at Yan Yu.
"What's wrong? Do I look bad today?" Yan Yu asked as she set down her spoon after finishing the hangover soup.
"No! Not at all!" Su Siyu quickly denied.
He lifted his head, his gaze briefly meeting Yan Yu's before quickly shifting away.
"What does that look mean? Why do I feel like I'm some kind of fairy and you're the one from the Eastern Tang?"
Yan Yu raised her delicate brows and took a fierce bite of the toast in her hand, as if venting her little frustrations.
"Forget it, I don't want to hear you talk. Just take me to the office today."
Seeing him hesitate, Yan Yu waved her hand dismissively.
The Yan family's company was initially not very large, but due to good relations with various influential families in the city, and with the elders of the Su family seeing Yan Yu as a gentle beauty who fit their criteria for a daughter-in-law, they had no reason to refuse this marriage alliance.
The Yan family was pleased that such an ancient and prestigious family as the Su family valued their daughter. Moreover, as the only child of the Yan family, it was not surprising that she had a dual nature in her personality.
The Su family primarily dealt in antiques, and matters concerning their own business did not require Su Siyu's attention, allowing him more time and energy to focus on his personal interests and hobbies.
After a moment of silence, Su Siyu slowly raised his head.
"Alright, I'll pick you up tonight."
Yan Yu paused; this was the first time she had heard Su Siyu take the initiative to say he would pick her up after work.
"Su Siyu, you wouldn't have developed feelings for me, would you?"
She tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with curiosity and anticipation.
"Think whatever you want."
Su Siyu didn't answer directly, but his flushed ears and slightly trembling lips betrayed his secret. He realized that his feelings for Yan Yu had seemingly deepened overnight; that emotion sprouted like spring bamboo shoots breaking through the earth, impossible to suppress any longer.
He was afraid to admit it.
