Su Siyu was visiting the Yan family's company for the first time. The scale was modest, yet everything was running smoothly and efficiently. When he brought Yan Yu to the office during the day, it felt like a stone thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples all around.
He encountered many employees working under Yan Yu, and their gazes were filled with surprise and envy, like invisible threads weaving around him. It dawned on Su Siyu that being the center of attention could actually be quite pleasant. Just as a smile began to form on his lips, his train of thought was abruptly interrupted by the relentless ringing of his phone.
"Su Siyu, I might be late getting off work today; there’s been a problem with the contract we signed yesterday," Yan Yu's voice came through, tinged with fatigue and helplessness.
"Okay," Su Siyu replied, but the latter part of his response got stuck in his throat. It seemed Yan Yu was waiting for him to say something more, but after nearly a minute of silence, she didn’t wait any longer.
"Alright then, goodbye." There was a barely perceptible hint of disappointment in her voice before the line went dead with the monotonous sound of a busy signal.
Once he heard the busy tone, Su Siyu let out an annoyed click of his tongue and lightly punched the steering wheel. He had arrived early to pick up Yan Yu; his car was parked not far from her office, and he had even made dinner reservations for them. Today was supposed to be the day they discussed renewing their agreement.
"Why are you still hesitating at this point?" he scolded himself inwardly. Just as he was about to call her back, a sleek black luxury business car caught his eye as it pulled into view and parked downstairs at the company.
A well-dressed man stepped out of the car—Su Siyu recognized him immediately; it was Cai, who had driven Yan Yu home last night. Dressed in an expensive suit with polished shoes, every movement Cai made exuded confidence, even arrogance. Su Siyu's brow furrowed slightly as an uneasy feeling washed over him.
"President Yan, I hope you will consider our latest collaboration proposal," Cai said as he entered the large conference room, where the atmosphere felt stifling, like the sky before a storm.
The atmosphere in the Yan Corporation was tense, with every white-collar employee present holding their breath, their eyes fixed on Cai's expression as they navigated the situation. Yan Yu was no exception; she sat at the opposite end of the conference table, her face serious.
Cai was undoubtedly the biggest client for the company she had taken over. This collaboration project was crucial for the company's development in the near future. They had clearly discussed all cooperation matters last night, and according to custom, signing the contract at the company should have resulted in a happy ending for everyone involved. However, now Cai seemed like a completely different person, demanding a complete overhaul of the proposal and insisting that she lower the profit margin by another five percent.
It felt like he was taking advantage of their predicament.
“Mr. Cai, we discussed everything clearly last night. If you want to revise the proposal again at such short notice, it will definitely affect our efficiency—”
Yan Yu attempted to negotiate further, but her words were abruptly cut off by him. “Since you, Ms. Yan, say it’s not possible, then perhaps we should find a more suitable company for this collaboration.”
Cai's tone was laced with threats, and his gaze held an arrogant confidence as he casually propped his legs up on the conference table. His posture resembled that of a ruler looking down upon his subjects, provocatively staring at Yan Yu while his eyes roamed over her without restraint.
He seemed to relish this feeling of control, taking pleasure in watching Yan Yu squirm in her predicament.
As soon as Cai finished speaking, the expressions of everyone else in the room turned grim. They all understood how vital this collaboration was for the company, yet they felt an overwhelming sense of anger and helplessness in the face of Cai's unreasonable demands.
“What a big ego you have! Who do you think you are?”
A voice, cool and unyielding, rang out from the doorway of the conference room.
All eyes turned to Su Siyu in that instant.
