I dragged my weary body out of the ruins of Sublimation Hospital. The night breeze swept by, carrying the acrid scent of gunpowder. The sounds of the laboratory explosion still echoed in my ears, and Li Xudong's words, "the most perfect Experimental Subject," lingered in my mind like a haunting spell.
Suddenly, my phone vibrated with an encrypted message: "Come to my private villa. I will tell you everything you want to know."
Sender: Li Xudong.
"Hmph." I scoffed. Did he really think I would fall for such an obvious trap?
But in the next moment, a photo popped up on my screen: a yellowed medical record, prominently displaying "Experimental Subject No. 001: Jiang Xiaodao."
My heart skipped a beat.
"Your unique constitution has been monitored since birth. Want to know why it was only after charging you that the Life Power Bank finally functioned properly?" Li Xudong's messages continued to flood in.
I clenched my fists. What was this madman really planning?
Late at night, at Li Xudong's private villa.
"Welcome, my most prized creation," he said, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window with his back to me. "Do you know? Your survival until now is entirely due to my careful cultivation."
"Cut the crap!" I interrupted sharply. "What about those Experimental Subjects whose lives you drained?"
"Experiments always require sacrifices." He turned around, his eyes gleaming with a manic light. "To create the perfect life vessel, what are a mere few dozen lives worth?"
At that moment, an elderly voice suddenly echoed, "Li Xudong, you have disappointed me greatly."
An old man with white hair stepped out from the shadows. Li Xudong's expression instantly turned to one of terror. "Professor Wu! How could you...?"
"I studied the Life Power Bank with the intention of saving people from illness," the old man sighed, "yet you have used it to conduct such insane experiments."
"Jiang Xiaodao," the old man turned to me, "do you know what the special energy within you is? From the moment you were born, we extracted Life Energy from your body. Therefore, your Life Energy is the most original source of energy for the Life Power Bank."
My mind buzzed with realization. "So, I have been... a test subject from the very beginning?"
Li Xudong had lost all sanity; he directly used the Energy Extractor to rapidly drain Professor Wu's Life Energy.
"No one can interfere with me!" Li Xudong suddenly laughed maniacally. "You are my creation! Every cell in your body bears my mark!"
He abruptly pulled out a Black Remote Control. "As long as I press this button, the energy within you will go out of control in an instant!"
In a critical moment, I gripped a copper coin and ignited my Life Energy once more. Blue energy gathered in my palm and shot directly at Li Xudong.
"Bang!"
The remote control shattered in response. But at that moment, a sharp pain surged from my heart. My vision began to blur, and it felt as if all my strength was being drained away.
Life Time: 73 days.
I fell to my knees, the world around me bathed in a crimson hue. In my ears, I could hear Li Xudong's maniacal laughter: "Do you see? This is your fate! Sooner or later, you will come back to me!"
I ignored him and quickly fled the scene.
