That night, Su Ying drank a lot, drowning her sorrows in alcohol. By the time the banquet ended, she was so drunk that she could barely stand.
The carriage stopped outside the General's residence, and Su Ying felt a pair of warm hands gently caress her cheek before lifting her up by the waist.
She struggled to open her tired eyes and saw Ye Yang's face. A wave of bittersweet emotion surged within her, and she felt an impulse to cry. She reached out and tightly wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing herself into his embrace.
"This dream feels so real; he hasn't held me like this in such a long time," she mumbled, gripping his clothes as if afraid this "illusion" would vanish at any moment.
Lou Ye Yang halted abruptly at her words, looking down at Su Ying, who was still murmuring in his arms. He recalled how he had brushed aside the curtain of the carriage to touch her cheek and found his hand wet with tears, a pang of guilt rising within him.
"Su Ying, who is he?" Lou Ye Yang asked, his voice softer than it had ever been with her.
"He is the one I've waited for a long time, the one I've waited for so long..." Su Ying pressed her lips together, her closed eyes and long lashes fluttering like butterfly wings, revealing endless sorrow.
"You are cuter when you’re asleep," Lou Ye Yang said with a low chuckle as he tightened his hold on her and strode toward Jin Yuan.
The moonlight was bright, and a thin mist hung in the air.
Su Ying sat quietly on a swing in a garden not far from Jin Yuan, dressed in a snow-white long robe. Beside her, the Li Tree bloomed like snow, pure and flawless.
Her delicate fingers held a Jade Flute as she gently brought it to her lips, playing a soft melody that echoed through the night sky. Suddenly, the chilly night breeze stirred the pear blossoms into a flurry of petals, creating an ethereal scene.
"Who taught you this tune?" Lou Ye Yang's deep voice suddenly broke the serene and sorrowful sound of the flute.
"A heartless person." Su Ying set down her Jade Flute, her expression calm, speaking in a tone that was neither warm nor cold.
"Do you have someone you care about?" Ye Yang's expression darkened slightly. Last night, when he held her while she was drunk and unconscious, wasn't she talking about him? For some reason, a hint of bitterness surged within him.
"Yes, just like you have Fu Ning." Su Ying replied, a bitter smile curling at the corners of her lips. "Unfortunately, you two are in love with each other, while I have been abandoned, left all alone." Her heart ached at the thought that her beloved was right in front of her—Lou Ye Yang—but he no longer remembered her. It pained her deeply to think that he could fall for another woman.
"Then why did you marry me? You went through so much trouble to get me to marry you." Lou Ye Yang didn't like her cold and unyielding demeanor and decided to mock her instead.
"Because I heard that you and Fu Ning were too affectionate. Since I have been abandoned, my heart has become somewhat twisted, so I wanted to break you two apart." Su Ying pressed her lips together, deliberately painting herself in a negative light. She wasn't a malicious woman; she simply couldn't bear to watch another woman openly compete for the man she loved.
"I remember you said we knew each other before. So please tell me, what kind of relationship did we have?" Surprisingly, Lou Ye Yang did not get angry but chuckled lightly, wanting to explore the forgotten past.
"We might have originally been enemies. I wanted to torment you, so I decided to marry you and make your life miserable along with Fu Ning's." Su Ying turned her head, her rosy lips curling into a smile that was both seductive and ambiguous. Lou Ye Yang paused slightly as he watched her gracefully descend from the swing set, slowly approaching him step by step.
"Or perhaps we were once lovers. You just forgot your original vows, and I'm here to collect what is owed." Su Ying's smile grew more enchanting, but Lou Ye Yang failed to notice that her gaze was intentionally drifting towards something behind him. Not far away in the shade of a tree stood Fu Ning, shocked and watching them with clenched fists and a pale face.
"Kiss me, and I'll tell you," Su Ying whispered playfully, rising on her toes and wrapping her delicate arm around his neck. She knew that Ye Yang despised her now; how could he possibly want to kiss her?
"You think I wouldn't do it?" Lou Ye Yang pierced through her thoughts with his words. Before Su Ying could react, he tightly grasped her head, casting a shadow over her as his lips met hers with a cool yet soft touch.
Su Ying stared in shock at the handsome face before her; as their eyes met, she saw warmth reflected in his deep black gaze. Had she misjudged him? That look was just like the one he used to have.
"You shameless woman! Last time the poison didn't kill you; this time I will make sure you thoroughly leave the General's residence!" Fu Ning shouted from a distance, eyes wide with fury and fists clenched tightly as she cursed them. She would never allow Su Ying to succeed—never!
