Cai Zhu remarked that the sunlight was just right today and specially moved a lounge chair to the garden in front of the house.
Su Ying did not refuse; like a puppet with its strings cut, she allowed Cai Zhu to help her lie down on the chair.
"Madam, please don't be sad. A man as heartless as him isn't worth your tears," Cai Zhu said, covering her with a blanket. Seeing Su Ying's pale face and the desolation of her Shattered Soul, she felt a pang of sorrow and offered her comfort.
"I want to return to the palace, as if I had never known him," Su Ying's voice was hoarse. In her daze, she longed for the days spent in the palace—though lonely, they were far better than the heartache she felt now.
"It’s the perfect time for you to go back, especially since the general is planning to divorce you anyway," Fu Ning's sweet voice intruded at an inappropriate moment. Su Ying closed her eyes, clearly not wanting to see her.
But did she really say that Lou Ye Yang intended to divorce her? Was he truly so cruel?
"Do you know about Zetian Empress? She killed her own flesh and blood and harmed the queen. Now I am merely following her example, leaving you in such a state. It truly breaks my heart," Fu Ning's words dripped with disdain and schadenfreude, each one unbearable.
"So it was you who caused the child’s death. How can there be such a heartless mother as you in this world?" Su Ying felt a surge of anger and disbelief as she sat up, staring incredulously at Fu Ning, who still appeared so delicate.
"If the child knew that his death would help his mother, I believe he wouldn’t blame me," Fu Ning said with a smile, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Oh, by the way, there’s something I forgot to tell you. The reason I saved the general was that I saw the token on him."
Thinking that this way I would always have a place of wealth and honor, I never expected that he truly remembered nothing, only that I had saved him and now wanted to marry me.
It was somewhat laughable; whatever I said, he believed. Fu Ning appeared lost in thought, as if recalling something left unsaid, and with a playful smile, she turned to Su Ying and spoke each word deliberately.
"You crazy fool, get lost!" Su Ying was extremely angry, a surge of frustration building in her chest, making her feel suffocated. But she was suddenly frozen by a piece of paper filled with writing in front of her, on which the words "Divorce Decree" were clearly written.
"Now that you see it clearly, you can go back to your palace. However, throughout history, when a woman is divorced by her husband, it often brings shame to her family—especially for a princess like you."
Lou's Residence's wife can only be me; it can only be me." After saying this, Fu Ning smiled somewhat sinisterly, repeatedly waving the paper in front of Su Ying.
Su Ying felt a surge of anger rising in her chest and tasted blood at the back of her throat. With a gasp, she spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.
Fu Ning was evidently startled as she took several steps back, looking at her in fear.
"You both deserve to die—both you and Lou Ye Yang. I won't let you get away with this!" Su Ying looked calmly at Fu Ning before curling her lips into a bitter smile and speaking coldly.
Fu Ning seemed to feel a sense of dread; clutching the divorce decree tightly, she turned and fled from Jin Yuan.
Later that night, when Lou Ye Yang heard Cai Zhu recounting the grievances of his master, he learned that Su Ying had packed her things and returned to the palace.
Under his persistent questioning, Fu Ning finally admitted the truth about the divorce decree.
"What divorce decree? You wrote a divorce decree in my name for her!" Lou Ye Yang was shocked and furious; it was the first time he had nearly shouted at Fu Ning.
Fu Ning took a few steps back in fear, nodding as she pleaded, "I thought you hated her so much that I might as well write her a divorce letter in your name. Ye Yang, I did it all for you. Please don’t be angry."
"Cai Zhu's words are true, so what about the child in your womb? Did Su Ying really force you to have an abortion? Speak!" Lou Ye Yang asked, struggling to suppress the urge to strangle her, his voice steady and deliberate.
"I was just afraid she would harm my child, so I took matters into my own hands before she could act. I had to protect my own life. Forgive me, Ye Yang."
Fu Ning suddenly fell to her knees, reaching out to grasp Lou Ye Yang's feet, sobbing pitifully.
But he unexpectedly pushed her away with force. Lou Ye Yang closed his eyes, unwilling to even glance at her, coldly stating, "The one with a wicked heart is you. Get out! I never want to see you again!"
A sharp pain pierced his heart, not because of Fu Ning, but because of Su Ying. That night when he almost choked her to death, he remembered her hollow eyes filled with tears.
Why didn’t he believe her?
