Rao Jie was eager to try, but ultimately chose to support Wu Rong. "I’ll go with your decision; I have no objections."
Rao Jie didn’t want to put Wu Rong in a difficult position. Love wasn’t about proving oneself through various hardships.
Satisfied with Rao Jie’s response, Wu Rong turned to Nina and said, “Great!”
However, Nina was shocked. “You… this is your matter. Why are you asking for someone else’s opinion? Wu Rong, have you become weak? Is this really you?”
As she spoke, she tried to step inside, but Wu Rong blocked her way.
Nina looked up at him in confusion.
“Because she is my beloved, asking for her opinion is a sign of respect. Don’t you understand this simple principle after living in England? And do you really want to start lecturing me now? That goes against our agreement, which lasts for three days starting tomorrow—not including today—and you cannot disturb my normal rest time.”
With that, Wu Rong shut the door without waiting for Nina’s response.
Rao Jie was astonished by his bold move and exclaimed, “You just sent her away like that?”
Wu Rong replied matter-of-factly, “If I’m destined to suffer, why should I endure more than necessary?”
Rao Jie smiled helplessly, feeling a twinge of worry. Nina seemed overly confident; her timing was too precise to suggest she was unprepared. People with high intelligence like them would surely devise a strategy if they truly intended to do something.
“Is Nina smarter than you?” Rao Jie asked curiously.
Wu Rong shot her a glare while ordering food on his phone. “How could that be?”
Rao Jie looked at Wu Rong skeptically. Perhaps Nina didn’t necessarily have a higher IQ than Wu Rong, but she certainly had more cunning. “Do you think she might persuade you to change your mind?”
Wu Rong wore an expression of disbelief. “That’s impossible. She’s annoying and has a sharp tongue. Plus, she’s quite resilient. But at least she keeps her word; once the three days are over, I won’t have to worry about her anymore.”
Rao Jie chuckled awkwardly. It was ironic that Wu Rong called someone else sharp-tongued and annoying—did he have the right to say that?
However, hearing Wu Rong say this eased her worries a bit. Initially, she thought there might be some connection between the two of them, but from Wu Rong’s demeanor, it was clear he hadn’t considered that possibility at all. Their group of academic researchers had different ways of thinking compared to ordinary people.
Who knew if Nina’s obsession with Wu Rong stemmed from regretting his talent and future or from other feelings?
Wu Rong showed no signs of wanting to leave, so Rao Jie felt reassured.
After finishing their meal, Rao Jie wanted to return to her room to rest.
But Wu Rong insisted she stay with him, claiming he had suffered enough for the day and would need energy for the upcoming challenges. He dragged Rao Jie back to his room instead.
The next morning, Nina arrived bright and early.
But at that time, Rao Jie and Wu Rong were still fast asleep.
Wu Rong was sleeping soundly, completely oblivious to the noises outside. However, Rao Jie was awakened by the commotion and, still groggy, attempted to get up. She soon realized she was tightly wrapped in Wu Rong's embrace. She reached out and gently patted him, saying, "Someone's here, probably Nina. I need to go open the door."
Wu Rong nuzzled against her. He was very sensitive to Rao Jie's voice and movements, so he quickly stirred awake. "Don't go, just sleep a little longer. You stayed up late last night; lie down for a bit more. Let her come in by herself."
With that, he hazily grabbed his phone and sent Nina the door code, allowing her to enter freely while ensuring she wouldn't disturb his sleep.
