Rao Jie couldn't help but ask, "What did you do at home today?"
Wu Rong, unaware of Rao Jie's tension, replied, "We just worked on a project together."
"Did she not mention anything about asking you to go back?" Rao Jie inquired curiously.
Wu Rong shook his head. "After I dropped you off, she didn't bring it up again. She introduced a project that I found quite interesting, so we started working on it until just now when I came to pick you up."
Rao Jie asked in confusion, "So you're driving so fast now because you want to get home and continue the project?"
Wu Rong paused for a moment, then slowed down. "Did I scare you? Sorry, I'm just really interested in that project and got a bit carried away."
"It's fine. If you want to get home faster, just drive quickly. I can prepare dinner for you all sooner," Rao Jie said, suppressing her discomfort and speaking sweetly.
Wu Rong indeed accelerated, eager to get home.
Upon arriving home, Rao Jie noticed Nina was in Wu Rong's room, writing something on the whiteboard wall. She had been out in the morning and now saw the room filled with draft papers and incomprehensible notes on the whiteboard.
Nina had taken off her coat and was wearing only a beige sweater and black jeans that accentuated her slim figure. Her hair was tied up, and she looked serious, which made her quite charming.
Rao Jie stood there in a daze as Wu Rong hurriedly dropped his coat and said, "Call me when dinner's ready," before rushing inside.
Nina glanced back at Rao Jie but quickly turned her attention away as the door closed behind her.
Rao Jie felt uncomfortable standing there. After a moment of hesitation, she decided to go prepare dinner for everyone.
Once dinner was ready, Rao Jie knocked on the door, but it was Nina who opened it.
Wu Rong stood in front of the whiteboard, seemingly deep in thought.
Nina wore a serious expression and shushed Rao Jie, warning her to be quiet before stepping outside and gently closing the door behind her.
"What’s going on?" Nina said with an unfriendly tone. "Don't you know not to disturb him while he's working on research?"
Rao Jie felt a sense of helplessness rising within her. "I just came to remind you that dinner is ready."
Nina arrogantly replied, "No way. He's still thinking. You can't disturb him during this time. Just eat by yourself; if we get hungry later, we'll come out to eat. Thanks for your trouble."
Rao Jie felt a lump in her throat; why did those words sound so harsh?
Before she could process her feelings further, Nina sneered, "But really, this is all you can do for him—it's like being a nanny."
Rao Jie's expression changed instantly. "Miss Nina, I don't know what I've done to earn your disdain. Everyone is different; you have no right to look down on anyone. I'm letting this slide because you're Wu Rong's friend, but if you keep this up and make things difficult for him, I won't hesitate to ask you to leave."
Nina sneered, "You really dare to say that? What do you think you are here? You're just someone who managed to seduce Wu Rong by living off his hospitality. Wu Rong has never been this close to a woman before, and that's why you succeeded. Do you really think you're the master of this place?"
Rao Jie was taken aback by Nina's harsh words, feeling her confidence waver.
Nina raised an eyebrow and continued, "You're absolutely right; I look down on you. You're nothing but a leech clinging to Wu Rong. In just one day, I've come to understand that Wu Rong is merely accustomed to your care and can't live without you. Do you really think he has fallen in love with you? He's completely immersed in the world of mathematics; he lives for math and knows nothing about love."
