No matter what reasons Nina tries to find or how confidently she argues her actions, Rao Jie has only one thing to say.
"Wu Rong likes me now. Whether in the past or present, he has never liked you. You know very well that someone like Wu Rong, once he likes someone, cannot hide it. Why not wake him up right now and ask him if he has feelings for you? Give you a chance for a confession?"
Nina's face momentarily twisted in anger but quickly returned to her usual composure.
"It seems I wasn't clear enough last time. You still haven't realized the problem, have you? Whether you deserve Wu Rong or not, I won't say anything about that; you know it in your heart. If you have no shame and aren't insecure, then there's nothing I can do. But if you claim that Wu Rong likes you, then I can only say you're deceiving yourself. Don't you know how peculiar Wu Rong's character is? He knows the difference between liking someone and being accustomed to them."
Rao Jie’s expression shifted slightly, but she remained resolute. "How do you know he doesn't like me but is just used to me? How can you tell the difference? Isn't it because you can't have him that you're distorting others' feelings to suit your own delusions?"
Rao Jie was genuinely angered by Nina's earlier actions and unconsciously aimed for her sore spots while speaking. Both Rao Jie and Nina harbored uncertainties deep within, so whenever their sensitive points were touched, it hit hard.
Nina sneered, "You seem quite confident. How about a bet? Move out and stop lingering here. Even if you're dating, there's no reason to live together right away. Go out and see if he will still 'like' you without daily interactions. Or are you afraid to leave because deep down, you know it's just a habit? Once you're gone, he'll forget about you."
Despite knowing that Nina was trying to provoke her—perhaps just wanting to drive her away so she could monopolize Wu Rong—Rao Jie felt compelled to take this bet because she wanted to prove that Wu Rong's feelings for her were more than just a habit; he truly liked her.
Yet deep down, Rao Jie felt a twinge of fear. If she really left this place, what connection would she have with Wu Rong?
Seeing her hesitation, Nina smirked disdainfully and picked up her things. "I'm leaving now. You can tell Wu Rong about what happened earlier if you want; I'm not afraid of that. Tomorrow is the last day. If I can't persuade him to leave with me, I will naturally go on my own. But I believe you'll soon be out of Wu Rong's life as well."
Rao Jie trembled with anger; her earlier desire to discuss her thoughts with Wu Rong had vanished.
That night, when Wu Rong woke up, Rao Jie prepared dinner for him as usual and didn't mention anything about Nina.
She actually didn't want Wu Rong to know that Nina liked him.
When Wu Rong woke up, he realized he had missed picking up Rao Jie and hurriedly apologized.
"It's fine," Rao Jie said casually before adding, "By the way, I'm off tomorrow. There's a movie I've been wanting to see; can we go?"
Wu Rong paused for a moment, hesitation crossing his face. "The movie should be showing for a while; we can wait until our next day off to see it. Or if you're too eager, you could go with friends."
Rao Jie's expression stiffened slightly. "What's wrong? Are you very busy?"
Wu Rong replied apologetically, "The project Nina brought is from Cambridge; she can only stay one last day tomorrow before leaving. I want to clarify the results of this phase before she goes."
