“Zhou Yan, Zhou Yan…” Jinyi struggled to crawl beside the battered Zhou Yan, her heart aching at the sight of his horrific, whip-lashed wounds and the blood that stained his body. 0

She gently cradled his head in her hands, terrified of causing him any more pain. 0

“I… I’ve made you suffer again. I’m sorry.” A single tear slowly trickled from the corner of Zhou Yan's eye, landing perfectly in Jinyi's trembling palm. 0

After years of wandering alone, he had finally found something to care for, a weakness, and that weakness was Jinyi —his most fatal vulnerability. 0

“Don’t say anything. Just don’t say anything!” Jinyi tenderly caressed his strong features with her fingers. She didn’t know if she would ever have the chance to hold him like this again, so in this moment, she allowed herself to be lost in it. 0

“We will definitely escape, Jinyi. Do you believe me?” Her warm response instantly ignited his fighting spirit. 0

He couldn’t just sit back and do nothing; he couldn’t let Jinyi suffer any more humiliation. He had to take her away from here, protect her, and ensure she wouldn’t be harmed in any way. 0

“I believe you.” Jinyi looked at him with tear-filled eyes and nodded vigorously. She had always believed in him without a doubt. 0

The next day, as dawn broke, Zhou Yan began to roll on the ground, his anguished cries immediately alerting the Japanese soldiers. 0

They exchanged glances, unsure of what to do, and hurriedly summoned the Japanese woman. 0

“He has a severe stomach condition. After being tortured by you yesterday and eating your spoiled leftovers, his condition has likely worsened. If we don’t help him soon, he will die!” Jinyi pleaded desperately, gripping the woman’s sleeve tightly. 0

The woman seemed concerned that if Zhou Yan died, she wouldn’t get any information from him. She quickly knelt down to assess his condition. 0

At that moment, Zhou Yan suddenly rolled over and seized her tightly, pressing a sharp piece of broken pottery against her throat while swiftly disarming her gun from her waist and tossing it to Jinyi. 0

“Give us a car and make sure the little Japanese soldiers don’t follow us. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee I won’t leave a few marks on your face,” Zhou Yan whispered threateningly in her ear. 0

The woman, feeling helpless, reluctantly waved away the approaching Japanese soldiers with guns. 0

With a Japanese woman as their hostage, Jinyi and Zhou Yan managed to escape from the Japanese Army's stronghold almost without a hitch. 0

When they reached a secluded hillside, the woman shouted, "Can I be released now?" 0

"Hey, when did I say I would let you go? Jinyi, shoot her!" Zhou Yan replied with a sly smile, his face full of mockery. 0

"You..." The Japanese woman was so angry that she couldn't find her words, glaring fiercely at Zhou Yan. 0

"You have your day now!" Jinyi said as he slowly raised his gun, a long-lost victorious smile spreading across his face. 0

"Feng Jinyi, you remember you have a sister named Feng Jinyan, right? Come on! Shoot her, shoot her!" Surprisingly, the Japanese woman did not plead for mercy or resist; instead, she uttered this perplexing statement. 0

" Jinyi, shoot her now! This woman can't be left alive!" Zhou Yan urged anxiously, his brows furrowed tightly. 0

If they didn't act soon, the Japanese soldiers would catch up to them quickly, and then there would be no escape. 0

"How do you know? Who are you? Who exactly are you?" Sweat beads began to form on Jinyi's forehead, and his hand holding the gun trembled slightly. 0

"Feng Jinyi, this is not the time to be soft-hearted! She's lying to you; hurry up and shoot!" Zhou Yan shouted in desperation, veins bulging on his forehead due to agitation. 0

"I'm not lying. I am Feng Jinyan. I didn't die back then. At the moment of the explosion, a Japanese woman shielded me with her body. Then her husband took me back to Japan." After saying this, the woman pulled out a jade pendant from her collar. 0

Jinyi's gun suddenly fell to the ground with a loud clatter. 0

“Yan Yan, it’s Yan Yan! I recognize this jade pendant; I bought it for her.” Jinyi murmured in a mix of shock and joy, tears streaming down her face as she scolded, “If you’re alive, why didn’t you come back to find me? Why did you become a dog for the Japanese?! Have you forgotten that our parents were killed by the Japanese devils?” 0

Feng Jinyan’s true identity struck Jinyi like a bolt from the blue, leaving her in a state of panic. She was ecstatic that Yan Yan was alive but heartbroken that Yan Yan had become a traitor. 0

“Don’t call me Yan Yan! The Feng Jinyan you knew is dead. I am now Fujita Sachiko! My sister, as a Chinese, saved other female classmates at the last moment but didn’t save me. It was the Japanese who saved me, so I serve the Japanese!” Feng Jinyan shouted fiercely at Jinyi. 0

At that moment, she resembled a rebellious child. She wasn’t seeking glory through treachery; she was deeply wounded by her own family. 0

She recalled the Japanese man asking her if she had any relatives, and with tears in her eyes, she shook her head desperately. 0

“Yan Yan…” Just as Jinyi wanted to approach Feng Jinyan, Feng Jinyan suddenly revealed a smug smile and then leaped down the hillside. 0

“Yan Yan—” Jinyi also wanted to jump after her but was held back by Zhou Yan. “Let her go! The Japanese don’t know her relationship with you; she’ll be fine.” 0

“Zhou Yan, she hates me! She hates me so much! But at that time, I was a detective in the police station; I had to save everyone. Yan Yan blames me for not saving her in time, but I’ve regretted it a thousand times since!” Jinyi buried her head in Zhou Yan’s chest, crying heartbreakingly. 0

For eight years, she had buried all her pain deep inside and had never released it so freely before. 0

“ Jinyi, it’s all in the past!” Zhou Yan sighed helplessly, tightening his embrace around her. 0

At that moment, all he could do was offer her a warm hug, letting her know that he would always be by her side. 0
