After leaving Yun Shaoyan's study, Su Lingyu stepped into the garden to catch her breath. Just as she began to feel a sense of relief, she encountered Mo Qing, whose expression was oddly unsettling. His narrow eyes glimmered with a mysterious light as he said, "Madam, I just saw everything."
Su Lingyu's heart skipped a beat, her gaze flickering nervously, but she mustered the courage to reply, "Saw what?"
"In the study, you and Boss Yun..." He paused, letting out a suggestive laugh. "It's only been a short while since the young master passed away, and you're already eager to stray... Tsk tsk, you seem like a virtuous woman on the surface, but who would have thought..."
"Clean up your mouth!"
"Clean? This is as clean as it gets for me. Madam, you wouldn’t want others to know about this, would you?"
Su Lingyu fixed her gaze on him, unafraid of his threats. "Say whatever you want to whoever you want, but don’t forget that I have evidence of your opium trafficking. Do you really think I wouldn't keep something in reserve?" From the moment she took over the Wen family business, she had heard whispers of Mo Qing's underhanded dealings. However, she had to rely on his long-standing position within the Wen family; otherwise, he would have been dealt with long ago.
"You..." Mo Qing gritted his teeth in anger at being caught.
"Don't look where you shouldn't and don't say what you shouldn't!" Su Lingyu coldly warned before turning back toward the study.
"I will make you willingly come to my side."
The man from her dreams was domineering and arrogant yet carried a gentle affection. His words lingered in her mind long after he left, often resurfacing in her dreams.
Su Lingyu jolted awake, feeling lost and unable to return to sleep.
His face vividly flashed in her mind, refusing to fade away. She had to confront reality—she was truly shaken. When Yun Shaoyan spoke those words, he bore the same earnest and resolute expression as Wen Jing; she felt herself almost drowning in it. But with that came an even greater sense of confusion and unease. Did she truly deserve to possess such feelings now?
As dawn broke and light began to fill the sky, she wrapped herself in a shawl and leaned against the window, lost in thought.
Suddenly, the noisy shouts broke the morning tranquility as a silly girl rushed over, panicked, and exclaimed, “Old Madam… something has happened to Old Madam!”
Su Lingyu's mind went blank in an instant. She dropped the silly girl and hurried over.
The silly girl had just entered the house early in the morning when she found the elderly lady collapsed on the floor, unconscious. Frightened and flustered, she woke everyone in the family. Su Lingyu pushed through the crowd of commotion and saw the doctor checking Old Madam’s pulse.
After a long while, the doctor wrote a prescription and gave a few instructions before leaving the Wen Family.
Su Lingyu looked at the sleeping elderly woman, her heart instantly turning desolate. Nightmares from her childhood resurfaced; a blind fortune-teller had once told her that she was cursed and would bring death to those around her.
After her parents passed away, she had lived alone. Was this misfortune still unwilling to let her go?
With Wen Jing dead and now Old Madam ill… she sank into deep guilt.
Though she may not have had feelings for Wen Jing, she could not bear to watch Old Lady Wen and everything belonging to the Wen Family fall into the hands of evildoers.
Having made up her mind, she took a deep breath, tucked in the blankets, and stepped out of the elderly lady's room.
As soon as she exited, she ran into Yun Shaoyan, who had come to offer his condolences. Su Lingyu avoided his probing gaze and walked toward the depths of the courtyard. Yun Shaoyan seemed to sense something and followed her.
“Have you figured it out? Do you think you’ve fallen for me?” he asked eagerly.
Su Lingyu scoffed lightly. “If I’ve given you that impression, I apologize. But Mr. Yun, our relationship is merely one of cooperation.”
She was eager to clarify the relationship between them, and Yun Shaoyan was momentarily taken aback. "Is this your true feeling?"
"Of course!" Su Lingyu gritted her teeth, her fists clenched tightly in her sleeves.
"Our relationship will only be one of cooperation. I hope you won't overstep," she declared resolutely before turning away.
"Su Lingyu, I won't give up," he said.
The more stubborn she was, the more he wanted to possess her.
Yun Shaoyan proclaimed loudly, "One day, you will belong to me."
Su Lingyu paused for a moment but then left without a backward glance.
After they had gone, Ruan Xiaolian emerged from the shadows, her teeth clenched in anger. Yun Shaoyan had actually fallen for Su Lingyu! And what about her? Had she fallen for him too?
In Ruan Xiaolian's eyes burned a cold fury; she would not let Su Lingyu off the hook. She would ensure that the same thing would never happen again!
After a period of careful nurturing, the old lady finally improved, allowing Su Lingyu to relax and focus on handling matters related to Shanghang.
"Why can't you accept me?" Yun Shaoyan seized the opportunity to continue his pursuit.
