The neon lights outside flickered, reflecting the dazzling glow of the gemstone necklace.
Xi Qishen noticed my gaze and followed it, raising an eyebrow. "Do you like it?"
I didn't hide my desire and nodded. "Yes, I really like it."
I intentionally leaned a little closer to him, inhaling the masculine scent that surrounded him, and softly said, "Really? Then there are many things I want."
Xi Qishen's expression darkened, his throat bobbing as he said nothing, but instead took my hand and led me into the jewelry store.
He pointed at the necklace and told the clerk, "Take this necklace out."
The clerk carefully retrieved the necklace from the display case and handed it to Xi Qishen.
When it came time to pay, I deliberately paused for a few seconds with my card on the POS machine before gently swiping it.
With a beep, the payment was successful.
As we exited the jewelry store, Xi Qishen's expression clearly soured. He looked at the luxury items in my arms with a hint of dissatisfaction.
I wrapped my arm around his and pouted playfully. "I didn't buy much, just a few small bags."
Xi Qishen glanced at the five beautifully packaged boxes piled on the counter, a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth.
"A few... little bags?"
"Yes!" I blinked, "Honey, you’re so sweet!" I stood on my tiptoes and gently kissed his cheek.
Xi Qishen's body stiffened for a moment before relaxing again, pulling me closer with his arm.
Meanwhile, Mother Xi was shopping in the mall with a few friends.
She spotted me shopping enthusiastically and Xi Qishen's helpless expression at once.
Her face darkened as she quickly approached me, her tone sharp. "Xu Yanyan, what are you doing?"
I nodded innocently, "Do they look good?"
Mother Xi's gaze swept over me before landing on the luxury shopping bags I was holding.
Seeing Mother Xi, Xi Qishen's expression changed slightly.
"Mom, what are you doing here?"
Mother Xi ignored him and turned her attention back to me, her voice cutting. "Miss Xu, what do you think you’re doing?"
Mother Xi pointed at me, her voice filled with anger. "Qishen, look at her! She's just a gold digger! You've been fooled by her!"
Xi Qishen frowned, his tone slightly impatient. "Mom, Yanyan is my girlfriend."
"Girlfriend? You're actually defending her!" Mother Xi trembled with rage. "I’m telling you, I will never agree to your relationship!"
She pointed at the shopping bags on the counter, her tone aggressive. "Do you know the value of these things? They could support an ordinary family for a lifetime!"
Her expression darkened, and Mother Xi grew even angrier. She turned to Xi Qishen and said, "Qishen, look at what kind of woman you've chosen! All she knows is how to spend money! If you stay with her, you'll end up losing your entire fortune!"
Just as Xi Qishen was about to explain, I interjected, "Auntie, you misunderstand. I bought all these things with my own money; I didn’t spend Qishen's." I bit my lip, my eyes slightly reddening. "Auntie, I just like these things; I mean no harm..."
"Like? I see nothing but vanity!" Mother Xi ruthlessly exposed my facade. "Do you think I don’t know your intentions? You just want to trap Qishen this way!"
Xi Qishen glanced at me, his eyes filled with concern.
He turned to Mother Xi and said, "Mom, I hope you can respect my choice." With that, he took my hand and we left the luxury store.
