The cold night breeze swept in.
I took a cigarette from Chen Zhaonian's pocket and lit it.
Amidst the swirling smoke, I couldn't see the expression on my face.
As one cigarette burned out, I pulled out a wad of cash and placed it on the bedside table.
Chen Zhaonian was deep in sleep, unaware of my departure.
Without looking back, I walked away.
The next evening, I agreed to have dinner with a suitor.
He chose a restaurant that Chen Zhaonian often frequented.
I sat across from the wealthy heir, chatting casually.
Not far away, Chen Zhaonian was sitting with An Huaishan, whispering something to each other.
Chen Zhaonian clearly noticed me, glancing over frequently.
I stole a glance at him without changing my demeanor and continued talking to the heir.
The heir's hand reached over and rested on the back of my hand.
I chuckled softly, "You seem quite energetic."
His gaze was intense as he replied, "Isn't that what you like about me?"
I took a sip of red wine, catching a glimpse of Chen Zhaonian's half-smiling face out of the corner of my eye.
Why did his expression look somewhat displeased?
I slightly curled my lips and placed my hand over the heir's.
He took the opportunity to hold my hand: "How about I come to your place tomorrow night?"
I blinked, "Come to my place? What do you want to do?"
He chuckled lightly, "What do you think?"
I laughed and gave his shoulder a playful pat: "You are something..."
Just as I was flirting with the heir, someone suddenly grabbed my arm from behind.
The wealthy heir turned around alertly, "Who?"
Chen Zhaonian glared at me darkly, "Why don't you go over and say hello?"
The wealthy heir looked confused, "Do you two know each other?"
I sighed and extended my hand toward the wealthy heir, "Let me introduce you. This is my university classmate, Mr. Chen Zhaonian."
Chen Zhaonian sneered, "University classmate?"
The wealthy heir glanced between me and Chen Zhaonian, as if he had caught a whiff of gossip.
I feigned surprise, "What? Did we say something wrong?"
Chen Zhaonian stared at me without saying a word.
I waved my hand at the wealthy heir, "You can go now; I need to catch up with an old friend."
The wealthy heir nodded understandingly and left.
Chen Zhaonian's expression darkened further, "Cheng Huiyan, can't you stay away from men?"
I raised an eyebrow at him, "Mr. Chen, what does that have to do with you?"
With that, I swayed my hips and walked toward the door.
Just as I took two steps out, Chen Zhaonian grabbed my arm.
I turned back unhappily, "Mr. Chen, please behave yourself."
He snorted coldly and pulled me into his embrace, gripping my chin and kissing me fiercely.
I pushed against him with all my strength, but he held me tighter.
He ground his lips against mine as if he wanted to swallow me whole.
Gradually, I softened in his arms and leaned against him.
He lifted me by my hips and carried me into a private room.
He pressed me onto the sofa, kissing me while asking, "Still angry?"
Fuming, I hit him lightly, "Let me go! What if your wife sees us?"
His gaze darkened, and he tightened his grip on me, "Are you jealous?"
He saw through my thoughts, and in a fit of anger, I retorted, "Who wants to be jealous of you!"
He grasped my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze. "What would happen if my wife saw you?"
I paused, breath caught in my throat.
What did he mean? Did he want to see me jealous, or was he trying to make me submit?
I scoffed and said, "You can tell her I'm your ex-girlfriend."
Chen Zhaonian looked at me, silent.
I continued, "But even if you tell her, she would probably just laugh it off." After all, An Huaishan was such a proud woman. How could she ever take me seriously?
Chen Zhaonian sighed and kissed me gently. " Huiyan, does it have to be this way between us?"
My eyes dimmed as I bit my lip, unable to respond.
